On Saturday morning, just as we have planned almost 1 year ago, we started our trip from our home in Slovenia all the way to Norway's North Cape. We got up at 3 a.m. and started our journey one hour later to avoid the summer traffic. We have packed our car already the night before.
We left our mountainous country.
After 1.060 km and a 14 hour drive we arrived in Germany in the little town called Salzgitter, which is close to Hannover. Here the countryside was flat and it reminded us of England, France and even the U.S.
We had booked a room for 4 people with a shared bathroom, but since we were the only guests, we had the whole apartment to ourselves. The price was a bargain and half of the price we would need to pay had we arranged the booking later... Yes, it pays to book way in advance... 1 year in advance in our case.
We decided to walk 5 km to a local pub, which felt good after sitting in the car all day long. On the hike back we got into some heavy rain, which was really astonishing since it had not rained there since March! And the next morning we got a very nice breakfast to be ready to continue our trip north.
