Herastrau Park and my favorite place there

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello,

I missed you so much, my dear friends! I hope you missed me too ;)
I was busy these days and I didn't have time to write. What do you say about a walk in the park?

The largest park in Bucharest, Herastrau Park, has an area of 110 ha and was arranged during the years 1936-1939. Towards the end of the 19th century, the park on the shores of Lake Herastrau was named the National Park, and since 1948 it is called Herastrau Park. The park is also called King Michael Park. It is charming in every season.

At the entrance to the park (Aviatorilor Metro Station) is the bronze statue of Charles de Gaulle. The statue has 4.7 meters high and weighs about five tons. The entrance from Kiseleff Road is dominated by the Arch of Triumph. The park's old area is reserved for relaxation.

The park is the ideal place for walking, rolling or cycling. An alley surrounds Lake Herastrau on a length of 5.9 km. At the entrance to Charles de Gaulle Square there are two bicycle rental centers.

In the park there are also different monuments as Hercules' Fight with the Centaur (1925) - the work of Ion Jalea, - Prometheus (1960) - the work of Joseph Marie Thomas Lambeaux and the Monument of the Parents on the Rose Island, consisting of 12 sculptures representing the political people who have made a significant contribution to the founding of the EU.

Herastrau Park is divided into two areas: a quiet area reserved for rest and culture, where you can see Elisabeth Palace, a summer theater with 2,800 seats and a second area is for active leisure, sports and fun (located across the lake), where there are sports grounds, restaurants, and a fun park for children.

One of the attractions of Herastrau Park is the Expoflora area, organized on an area of 15 hectares, in which there are regular floral decorations and Rose Island, consisting of two axes, one that opens the perspective to the Village Museum and another one which connects with the rest of the park.

You can spend a great time with your family at the Japanese Garden, arranged in 1998 with the support of the Japanese Embassy in Romania. It's my favorite place in the park.

The vegetation of the park is made up of a variety of trees (maple, ash, poplar, sage, etc.).

If you want to get there you have to take:

• Metro: Aviatorilor Station;
• Tram: 41;
• Bus: 105, 131, 148, 149, 182, 261, 282, 301, 304, 330, 331, 335;
• Special line: Bucharest City Tour.

I hope you will visit Romania and have the chance to take a walk in this wonderful park.

Love,
@allesia
