#28 : Mont Saint-Michel, France

in travel •  7 years ago

A rocky tidal island in the Gulf of St. Michael, in south-west Normandy, connected to mainland France by a 1,800-meter-long causeway. The sanctuary of Archangel Michael was erected on the island. The architecture of the sanctuary and the bay with large tides make it one of the most visited places in Normandy. According to data collected in the framework of the Projet Mont-Saint-Michel, this place is visited by an average of 3.2 million annually, which means that it is the most-visited Paris tourist attraction in France. Many of the island's buildings were classified as historical monuments, and the city as a whole was granted this privilege in 1962. Since 1979, it has been part of the World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
