Hello friends, today i highlight my home town Junagadh's Mountain Girnar.

Junagadh is a city located at the base of Great Girnar mountain. As the name suggests JUNA means OLD & Gadh means Fort, the town is a masterpiece of heritage sites. The city is a mix of Hindu, Muslims and Jain followers.

The highest point in Gujarat, Mt. Girnar has for centuries been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the state and indeed in all of Western India, with 866 Hindu and Jain temples spread over the 5 summits. The base of the mountain, known as Girnar Taleti. The mountain Girnar is older than the Himalayas and the Jain temples upon it are among st the most ancient in the country.

Girnar Mountain is about 3630 ft high from sea level and is an extinct volcano. There is the peak of Ambaji, with a height of 3,330 ft, which is famous for the temple dedicated to the goddess Amba Mata dating back to the 12th century. It is said that a visit to this temple guarantees a happy marriage life. There are good natural sceneries from the top of the mountain. The steps go down and up again to Gorakhnath Peak at 3666 ft above sea level, where there are footprints of the rishi Gorakhnath. It is the highest peak of the mountain.

Visitors must climb 8,500 steps to reach the top of the hill, so it is best to start early in the morning (before 5 am). It is a difficult four to five hour climb. Hundreds of people climb this hill every day. There are many stalls selling cold drinks along the way.
