While my post was TRENDING, I was UNDERGROUND, 112 meters to be exact

You can't choose the moments in life when good things will happen!

Everyone knows this too well, and that's what happened to me. Half an hour after I submitted my post The robots from Steemd part II, I left my home, having planned the next day to visit Salina Turda, a salt mine that I used to visit since I was little.

I am truly sorry that I missed all the action and most of the lovely comments that you have left me. I am grateful for the support I got from you guys, especially Stellabelle who was kind enough to promote my post again. What happened that day still amazes me.

So let me show you what I was doing meanwhile. Here I am, underground in a salt mine, taking pictures with Steemit. Remember this photo because I'm going to show you how I got there.

The journey begins here on the entrance of the tunnel; nobody in sight..fortunately the lights were on. On the ground you can still see the marks were the mining rails used to be.

Going further you can see written on the walls how many meters you have walked so far. I have a long way to go, to get deep underground.

I finally got to the first chamber The Joseph Mine, also called "Echo Chamber"; high-pitched sounds are echoed up to 20 times; I didn't test this theory personally, but I have heard plenty. Here is a photo of a corner inside the chamber with a light strip inserted. I thought it was pretty interesting.

Next to the "Echo Chamber" you can find a small museum with objects used in the mining process. Some of them are Carbide lamp, Tallow torch used for underground enlightening in 1850, hook for supporting tools and so many other.

Let's begin our descent. Better watch your step from this point on, because the stairs are slippery.

This is the view from the top of the Terezia Mine. And there is where I'm going to end up eventually. Those safety nets look a bit thin.

Let's move on to the next chamber the Rudolf Mine. I wanted to take the elevator but the line was never ending. So I decided to take the stairs.

Let me show you the long way down. Take a good look! See those little people? They are waiting to go up with the elevator.

Since the last time I was here things have changed. You are only allowed to use the stairs from the opposite side of the Rudolf Mine to descend. The stairs are way over there. I have to traverse the narrow path suspended high above the mine ground.I have never done this before and now I remembered why. As I took my first steps, the wood started to make some squeaky noises. I tried to think that this is like a walk in the park, nothing else. Well that worked until I could see the light through the wood planks.

I finally made it to the other side, and I was happy. Take a look at the view.

Once I made it here, only 13 floors to go until the Rudolf Mine. The extraction of salt in the Rudolf chamber ended in 1932 after 78 years.

A break to take a photo with Steemit.

We're almost there! Just another 6 floors.

Once on the ground, I took this photo. Remember the narrow path that I walked. Up there! This the last time I'm doing that!

Look at that amazing curtain of stalactites formed due to slow infiltration of the water.

But this is not the last stop. I need to get to the bottom. The bottom of the Terezia Mine. To show you the salt island, 112 meters bellow the surface. The exploitation of salt in this chamber started in 1690 and ended in 1880.

The view from the Rudolf mine is absolutely stunning.Let me show you the bottom. But first let's descend another 13 floors.Because these stairs were used for ascending and descending, I had to wait at the stop. Just another minute and 59 seconds.

Just a sneak peak midway to the 13 floors.

And I finally made it. The Terezia Mine.

Who wants to go boat ride? Don't worry, the maximum depth is only 8 meters. For some reason people throw coins in the lake. This is not a wishing fountain, people!

A closer look at one of the wood structures. You can take a seat and relax inside.

Here are some more photos for you to enjoy. The salt mine has two entries and you can also download an app that is an audio guide to the salt mine.

Strange formation on the roof near the second entry to the mine.

That's it! It's time to exit, after three hours and a lot of salt .

Would love to visit Transylvania one day!

Well you better take Ophelia and come :)

Oh Wow, this looks like an amazing experience I'd love to see it for myself.

It is truly amazing. Well you're not that far :) You can come.

I will have to wait until the kids are older. my youngest would get 2 floors down then start screaming and refusing to move while her sister would be trying to go on ahead and while this is happening the teen would be catching pokemon or chatting up some young ladies lol

:) Well I have seen this before; small children refusing to go down the stairs. Kids will be kids. We've been there too.

Wow looks like an amazing place. Great photos!

Thank you! It is a great place to visit. Since it was renovated a lot of people are choosing this place. It's like a salt mine museum. If you want more info http://salinaturda.eu/?lang=en

one of the must-go-to places if you visit Romania.

Yes. Have you been?

where is this located at? It looks awesome!!!

It is located in Transilvania, Romania.

That looks so cool! The formation at one of the entries looks so weird :D

Yes, it does. It's intriguing.

I'm excited you returned home to discover your post had been rewarded!

Thanks for sharing this experience. Great job using tons of photos to help showcase the salt mine.

Thank you wadepaterson ! It really was amazing news and unexpected!

Excellent. What can you say. This is amazing stuff. Your time was well spent, I'm thinking. Keep up the great work.

Yes. It all worked out. I'm just sorry that I missed all the fun at Steemit; and wasn't able to respond to all the comment in time.

How cold was it down there Anca?
I bet it felt good to be there and not on the scorching temperatures up top :D

Well, they say it's a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. You definitely need to be dressed for that.

This reminds me of the movie "As above so below"

I haven't seen it. I will have to google it to see what it's about.

Well the poster is the Eiffel tower and the catacombs. Well it's horror.. The catacombs will be on my visit list the next time I go to Paris for sure.

Looks very nice and cool to visit. But those steps looks scary. Especially three hour trip? I kinda went by seeing your pictures! :)

:) You don't have to stay 3 hours; I made lots of photos so that's why I stayed that long. Well I guess I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

WOW!

Claustrophobia, it what came to my mind at first. But then I started to open up to the beauty of it all. Thanks for sharing this Anca.

And yet another place I would like to travel to. :-)

:) And maybe fear of heights. I'm glad that you are considering to visit it. I'm glad I shared.

Yes that too... =D Some photo's have a certain Science Fiction feel to them.

this is freaking amazing! I love it! Thanks for sharing these adventures with us!

Thank you! This was the least I could do. Nice GIF. This looked like me when I saw my last post.

This is amazing. Not sure I could do it though.

Well it does send chills sometimes, when you hear the old wood squeak.

Wow.. This looks like it was an amazing adventure and a great experience. Very cool stuff and awesome pics. Thanks for sharing @anca3drandom. :)

It is an amazing place to visit. And they have all sorts of activities: bowling, ping pong etc. They even have an amphitheater for concerts.

This looks like an awesome place. I just realized this was Romania, WOW!! lol
I also looked up some videos on Youtube of all the different mines you listed. The stairs look steep by the way... :)

Well you have to grab the stair railing ...the elevator is always an option but the long lines.

These are more narrow than than the first ones :)

very nice great photos :))

Thank you Marius!

Thank you for taking us with you! It's likely this will be the only way I get to see this beautiful place, but now I have a taste of it.

It was my pleasure! Better this than nothing!

surreal. adding it to my list of places to visit.

Glad that you will visit it!
