Povrsina je 12 115 km2.
Obuhvata veci deo kotlina, recnih dolina i planina.
Klima je umerenokontitentalna, leta su duga i suva, a zime prohladne, ponekad snegovite, posebno na planinama. Jesen je toplija od proleca i pogodna za rad na njivama, u vocnjacima, vinogradimajuznopom.jpg
