Kruger National Park is such a fantastic game reserve, that you just can’t get enough of it. You have to go back again!

 

At the end of Day 5:

We were heading out of the Phalaborwa Gate, looking for some where to sleep the night in the town of Phalaborwa just outside the gate. 

 

Where we stayed the night:

Heading west along an open tarred road through the town of Phalaborwa, it was starting to get a little dark. Somewhere down the road, we decided to turn to the left and look for a B&B lodging.  

But don’t ask me now which of the many B&B or hotels that we found, but it suited us just fine. 

At the B&B they made us very comfortable in a couple of big rooms across a courtyard there. And after settling in, we ate some of our food from the boot of our car. 

And the next morning early after eating breakfast (more from the car), our daughter wanted us to return into Kruger Park again, for just one more day!  

We happily fall in with her plan. We love seeing wild animals and birds so much. It seems we just couldn’t get enough of it. 

What fun to be back in the park again!

The sky was clear and the sun was shining so friendly like. So driving along happily, it wasn’t long before we came across this herd of Impala buck: 

Turning right off the Phalaborwa/Letaba road, we drove into the west side of the Sable river dam area.  The opposite side to the Sleepover Hide.

The river isn’t very deep there. The area is very open and low-lying, where wild-game come down to drink in their droves. They come in herds because it is safer that way.  

Male chauvinistic behaviour:

There is always one or two bull buffalo that stand on guard duty. The herd doesn’t want to be taken unawares by a lion, leopard or hyena. 

And you can see in one of the photos in the collage, two bull buffalo are having a quiet tussle with one another. That happens when a young bull sizes up an older bull.  

And because the older bull wants to keep his harem of cows, there is always a fight to prove who is `king’ in the herd! 

And also in the collage, can you see, is some more impala buck. Notice how they keep away from the herds of buffalo! 

We stuck around for a while:

We parked our car and watched the wild animals drink their full. We were in no hurry. The day was young and the scene was so peaceful scene with the sun shining brightly.  

We didn’t see any other wild animals besides the buffalo, and they seemed serenely content, casually drinking and mingling around, here and there.  

No problem. Moving the car from one spot to another, having a great time soaking up the whole scene.
