The charms of Queenstown & Arrowtown!

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Even though the day started out as overcast, with mist and fine drizzling rain, we ventured out anyway, hoping to make the best of the day.

Braving the misty morning:

First we went along the Glenorchy-Queenstown road to Gill’s Point. Here the hillside overlooking Wakatipu Lake, was full of undergrowth and ferns. I suppose that is why the residential area further up the hillside is called Fernhill.

Then going back into Queenstown and up George road, we came across an old bridge. Straight after the bridge, we turn left, downwards off the road.

Going down into a gully, we realized we would have to choose a parking, from the several parking tiers lining the hillside below the main road.

We discovered the place housed a sports club, where speed river rafting was presently taking place, alongside it. It seems this town was no `sleepy hollow'!!

The river rafting club area:

We walked to a high lookout point close to the old bridge. Here we discovered the old bridge that we had passed over, majestically spanned a very deep chasm, where the river rafting jet boats went under, up and down the river.

Then walking down to the club house area, I took more photos of the surroundings.

And hiking back up to our car, we left.

And driving further along the main road again, we somehow landed up exploring a very high mountain.

Exploring the unknown was fun:

The higher we got up the strange mountain, mist occurred and got thicker. With the narrow twisting sandy road and the thick mist, my adrenaline started to kicked in. Truly, our way-out venture up that mountain was thrilling and exciting, all in itself!

Don’t ask me where that mystery mountain was, or what it was called. But it must have been on the way to Arrowtown, because that is where got to next, after we left the mountain.

The bustle of Arrowtown:

This town was full of very interesting little shops. You could see it was hosted especially for tourists. Each shop had something different to see and buy. I didn’t buy anything, I was too fascinated by what I saw and trying to keep up with the rest of the family.

Here are some of the photos our son took of the place. You can see he loves old cars and strange old machinery!

And on the way back to our lodgings in Queenstown,

We stopped and took photos of this scenery:

When you go on a trip like this, it is fun not knowing what you will find next.

Next day we tramped into Queenstown itself… but that you will hear about with my next New Zealand blog…

Great one!

"my adrenaline started to kicked in. Truly, our way-out venture up that mountain was thrilling and exciting, all in itself! "

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. We can hate or love the unknown. Being part of the Universe makes all space travellers, yet the being on Earth might temporarily steal away our sense for the adventure due to all these restrictions and limitations many find themselves immersed in.

For me, the type of adrenaline you talk about here is the one which makes me feel like being exactly where I want to be in that very moment, and nowhere else. As if the lure of unknown miracles awakens the gift of being present in us.

Here, the magick starts! ;)

I actually love the unknown part of adventures. It gives me a thrill.
It was the giddy heights and sandy narrow road that adrenaline started to kicked in.

wow! soo romantic beautiful place and a pretty good name Queenstown. After reading your content about your hometown i interested to visit there, however, I visited New Zealand, into your blog. Very wonderful Mam!!
Loved it.

Hi. Queenstown isn't my home town. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This blog is part of our trip through New Zealand.

Alright! Mam nice to read your journey of life. :-)

I've in fact lived a humble life. But... a very fulfilling one. Having had five children, I've often traveled, to see them where ever they have lived. And in the process, been to so many lovely places. And been an artist, that was always a thrilling experience and lots of fun gathering visual records of the scenes, so I could paint all those lovely places, once home again. Some I painted right there, open-air paintings... now that's exciting, & challenging painting under all conditions!

wow! that's awesome Mam, you're a gorgeous lady. I've did not saw your paintings, wanna be interested to see more good stuff.

Wow that's really something I love to watch, it's really beautiful and intresting place And ma'am your description is of a very high standard as it makes me felt as if I'm actually visiting this place along with you.
Loved it ma'am
I'm looking forward to watch more of your posts.
And whenever I got a chance I will surely visit this place in New Zealand

@artguru Do you reside at New Zealand? As most of your posts are related to New Zealand, if I think you do reside there, and if I am right your love for your country reflects from your blog, these rafting boats are really awesome. Well I would say I have never been to New Zealand but it looks like my Kashmir, cloudy, and full of greenery.

No I don't live in New Zealand. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.
What I've been doing, is giving you a running account of our trip through new Zealand.
Our children live on New Zealand's north island. If fact, they're presently in South Africa visiting family here.

Oo, now I got it

Dear @artguru,
I try to learn a lot from there.
I learned a lot from your YouTube channel.
Sir your posts are very perfect.
You keep making content in this way.

I don't have a YouTube channel. The reason why not, is because I have a terrible recorded voice. It doesn't sound anything like my true self!

The photo on which we see a boat descending on the current is delicious. I have long wanted to go rafting. But in my country there is no place suitable for this :)
Surroundings in this place are mesmerizing. I think that such a place is excellent for both active leisure and passive recreation.
The fog on the mountain gives this place of mystery.
The tourist city also has many attractive places. Many beautiful vintage cars and buildings. Such oshchenie that you fall into the old days.
