There are two main tourist attractions in Alicante, a historic Mediterranean port on the Costa Blanca in Spain. One of them is a fabulous beach – see my post "Discover your inner fish in the sea in Alicante". Another is the Castle of Santa Barbara, a fortification on Mount Benancantil.
The castle was constructed under the period of Islamic rule (between 711 and 1296 AD), with the first reference to the early construction dating back to the 10th century by the Arab chronicler and geographer Al-Razi. It was further shaped by an intense period of fortification in the 16th century and in the 18th century during the Spanish War of Succession.
On our third day in Alicante, having taken a swim in the Sea, @hkjn and I decided it was high time to visit the castle in the late morning. It was a scenic walk with beautiful views.
The views of the city and the beach were stunning, and the architecture was pleasing to the eye.
I had a tiny companion, my toy Leo, that also enjoyed the scenery:).
I was taken by complete surprise when I saw a gallery dedicated to the Song of Ice and Fire, a series of epic fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, that was made into an HBO TV series Game of Thrones.
The artwork was created by Enrique Jiménez Corominas, an extraordinary Spanish illustrator who also made a painting of Daenerys above and below.
It turns out that many of the scenes from the series were shot in Spain!
As we entered the gallery, there stood in all its glory, a thing desired much by many kings, the Iron Throne.
Many desire it yet only one can have it. Who will be worthy of this mighty seat? You decide.
I have made my choice, a little defiant girl who jumped on the throne as soon as @hkjn left it:). Who is your choice? Leave comments!

Thanks for visiting my city. I lived for 30 years. And that castle I have visited many times. I'm glad you liked the visit. There are many things and other places to visit. I hope you come back soon.
