Ayutthaya
About 80km north of Bangkok lies the small town of Ayutthaya. It is home to some stunningly beautiful old temples, which are internationally recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once reassured this city to be one of the most beautiful and sophisticated cities in Thailand and hence the capital of the old kingdom of Ayutthaya.

Ayutthaya itself is a small town, there's not much to do there so 2/3 days would be enough. It's the first stop for most backpackers after Bangkok and a good warm up for inexperienced beginners. For good cheap food go to the night market (every night 6-11pm) accross the street from the historical park.
