[Travel Photo Blog]Through Awen's Lens Part 7 - Welcome To Las Vegas!

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

After driving all night, and having to make multiple stops so our road warrior Daniela could rest, I was beyond delighted to see a sign indicating Las Vegas was only a few miles away. Dawn began to break and the shadowy forms in the distance slowly came into focus.

Greg was wrapped in a cocoon of blankets, and had free access to our snack bag. Don't let his face fool you, he was cozy. :P

We rushed to the airport as Daniela had a flight to catch in less than two hours and we still hadn't found a place to stay. I did some intense last minute deal searching on the web and was able to snag us a room for the week at America's Best Value Inn, at a very low price. Victory! When we arrived and saw how close we were to the main strip it seemed like fate had handed us the perfect room.

All I wanted was a nap, but we hadn't eaten in quite a while. Plus, how can you resist an awesome diner thats 200 ft from your door? Biscuit time! (did I mention we found the best place to stay?)

After our delicious meal, we retreated to the comfiest bed we had slept on in weeks. We woke rested and ready to explore. We walked a few blocks down Tropicana ave, before coming to an amazing view of a miniature New York City! It was crazy. There was a tiny version of the city, complete with a Statue of Liberty. There was even a roller coaster meandering through the buildings!

The MGM Lion stood as a timeless guardian to the tiny city.

Regal and shining in the Nevada sunshine.

Across the street was a hotel that really excited the little girl in me. Oh, who am I kidding. I freaking love castles. The Excalibur! It was like a Disney castle for adults.

Here I am! Sleepy and grumpy and thankful that my beloved @i-juggler makes sure I get my photo taken since I spend so much time behind the camera.

Photo time with Minnie!

We continued our walk, taking in all of the noise and lights. It was amazing how active the city was even on a Monday morning. This giant Coke bottle shone so bright like a beacon to all of the tourists. You really can find giant and miniature versions of everything in Las Vegas.

While not as densely populated by them, the height of the buildings in Vegas certainly took me back to my trip to NYC in college. When I visited NYC, we were in such a rush I never really got to experience everything fully. I was grateful we would have the week in Vegas together to really enjoy ourselves.

The energy we had regained from our nap had almost depleted. We were ready for a good nights sleep. Tomorrow we would rise ready to take on the city anew!
