A few months ago we had a crazy idea: let's ride our bikes 200 miles for shits n giggles and hit all these awesome bars and beaches along the way. So my friend Scott @adventureforme planned out this awesome route that took us all the way to the #1 beach in America, Siesta Key.
The plan was to go the full 80 miles from Fort Myers to Siesta Key on the day after Christmas. So I drove over to Scott's house early as hell with our bikes already packed up from weeks of excitement & pre-planning.
I guess you could say I was a little excited to get going
I wasn't as excited when Scott got his first flat of the trip. Being the designated bike mechanic, I had the pleasure of dealing with everything mechanical on the bikes. Anyway, it had to happen at some time right?
And then again! Not even two miles down the road over one bridge, Scott got another flat tire
Wtf Scott change your own tube....
So after making sure there weren't any evil poking things in the tire and rim, we headed off again and prayed that was the end of it.
It was great that we didn't have any more flat tires because we pedaled ourselves into the middle of nowhere between Lee County and Charlotte County
There wasn't any food on the map for another 10 miles and we were hungry for some lunch at this point about 20 miles into our ride.
I was ready to pedal out a solid 10 miles on an empty stomach until we found salvation right up the road...
We found a Cuban food truck in the middle of nowhere! We enjoyed some Cuban sandwiches and cafe con leche made by a guy missing 3 fingers. Gotta say, the cafe con leche was the best coffee I've had in a long time and the missing fingers added some badass character to it.
The Cuban fire fueled us into Punta Gorda and we were cruising with a buzzing high on cafe con leche. In Punta Gorda, we found some pretty amazing cycling paths and parks.
This one has a handy little tool station for bikes and even a little dog water fountain! Like c'mon Fort Myers, get your shit together or else I'm moving somewhere with better cycling infrastructure like this.
This is when we hopped on the legacy trail bike path in Venice. It made for my favorite cycling section of the trip.
I had to share this awesome pic of us posing and point out that it looks like we're about to drop the hottest rap album of the year.
The Legacy Trail basically led us for the rest of our trip into Siesta Key. This was our last stop about 70 miles in before getting to the hotel. It's also when we realized we had 12 miles left instead of 30!
We made it to the hotel and I probably took the fastest shower I've ever taken so we can hit the bar and get some food.
Munchies 420 Cafe open daily from 4:20 pm till 4:20 am
If you've never heard of this place before, you need to check it out. They're famous for celebrating high times with crazy foods and crazier people.
We got in and each ordered a Fat Sandy
The sandwich packs in two cheeseburger patties, mac n cheese, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, and a heart attack.
It goes best with some local craft beer
We made friends with our bartender, Cole, who had the politically incorrect cartoon comedy show South Park on the tv instead of football like any other damn bar. This made for an awesome vibe that we couldn't get anywhere else.
Cole recommended that we take a brain hemorrhage shot. Now, the menu basically says it looks like hell but tastes like heaven and shit was it right.
Just had to share this funky lookin drink
We stumbled back to the hotel only at 10 o'clock, a pretty early end to our night on the town but hell we were exhausted. It's a good thing too because we had an interesting day on the beach coming up.
Shout out to Scott @adventureforme for all the pictures on this trip! He's a great photographer and he'll be talking about our trip from his point of view on his own blog. Be sure to follow him!
Cruise on steemdudes and the rest of this trip is coming to you later 😎 ✌🏽
