3 Way BASE JUMP FROM BRIDGE!! - Slow motion!!

in travel •  6 years ago  (edited)

The only safe way to do a 3 way BASE jump from this low bridge is if two jumpers go static line and one jumper takes a freefall delay.

I am in the middle taking the freefall delay so I can create some vertical separation, whereas the other jumpers already have horizontal separation. This kept us away from one another once our parachutes open.

The jump went super smooth, it was a lot of fun, but you have to keep your head on a swivel in case any other jumpers get an off-heading opening and end up flying towards you.

As I am the lowest under my parachute, I set the landing pattern, and the jumper above me will not turn until I have turned etc.

WELL, that was the plan, but basejumper number 3 decided to put a turn in right after opening (he is the highest), which was extremely foolish as I cannot see him above me and I don't know he has turned, so I turn that way also (as that was our plan) and he ended up flying above me and had to land in another field downwind otherwise he would have landed on top of me. He was ok, but almost crash landed himself as he clipped some trees while entering the other field.

See, BASE jumping is super fun, but can turn scary at any moment and within seconds!

Of course, skydivers and BASE jumpers celebrate every thing with a cold beer, and we did exactly that after this BASE jump. Basejumper number 3 also got a bollocking from some locals for not sticking to the plan.
