** BEER HEAD BASE JUMP **

When you Google 'Beer Head BASE jump' you get a load of shit images of Beer Head, so apologies for the click bait title but…

A mate and I planned on base jumping Beer Head this weekend, while also attending the Dunkeswell night helicopter jumps (skydiving from a chopper in the dark), but of course, for the 3rd time we got turned over by the Weather Gods. The winds weren’t just over, there were gusts of 40mph…ffs. This also meant our plans to BASE jump Beer Head were out the window too.

Seeing as we had the pooches with us we decided to walk along Beer Head and get some lunch in the town of Beer. I had the Mavic Air drone with me so I threw it up in the 40mph+ wind, which was consistent at Beer Head, it wasn’t gusts, it was full-on-john hectic. To our surprise the drone handled it! The gimbal did have a little freak out, but we couldn’t believe how well the footage turned out.

Full disclosure, hate me all you want, I am being honest.

My next post will have the drone footage, but this post is purposely to drop some images that the Google crawlers will pick up, so that when and if anyone Googles 'Beer Head BASE jump' then at least some decent HQ photos will be there, instead of the bullshit that comes up now.

Why do I care? Because when I was trying to do some research sitting at home (3.5 hour drive away from Beer Head) I couldn’t find a decent image of the exit point. Yes I had been there before as ground crew for a BASE jump, but it was a long time ago and I never got close enough to the exit point.

Now I have to be careful, I am not putting these images up online for people to use as tools to help them plan a BASE jump, BUT! If a base jumper was considering a trip to Beer Head, then at least they have an idea of what the area looks like.

Again, I am not going to discuss whether the talus is positive or not, but you can see from the photo that it is definitely 'interesting' for any base jumper.

The money shot, try and find this shot or ANYTHING even remotely close, and you won't.

This is precisely my point, there is nothing out there on Beer Head. Beachy Head fuck me, there is basically a 'how to' online.

Base jumpers know about Beer Head already, but I do not know a single whuffo that knows about Beer Head, let alone the village of Beer. I have friends that live less than an hour away and they also have not heard of Beer Head. It blows my mind.

My intentions are not to burn an object by putting it out there on the blockchain and the internet. My intentions are to ensure that there are some decent images of Beer Head online. When I Googled 'beer head base jump' the other day I saw that the 2nd 3rd and 4th images on Google were mine! My pathetic photos I took from a Nokia mobile phone before smart phones or decent digital cameras existed!!!! Fuck! It's embarrassing! So I have taken the opportunity to rectify the shit.

If I don’t put these photos up now, some whuffo will at some point, so at least a base jumper has marked this space!! ;-)

My Samoyed 'Solomon' @samoyedfans got a nice walk out of it, it took us around 25mins to walk from the top to the beach, down a carved out path with steps, although it was super muddy.

Again so stoked on how well the drone handled the wind.

Just wait for my next post and I will add some footage from my phone at the top of how insane the wind was, and then you'll see the drone just dealing with it like it's nothing haha.
