Belize On $50US a day

Belize on $50 US a day. Is it still possible? Depends on
where you are willing to stay and how you travel. If you
are an Airbnb member, you can find nice places to stay
for $35US per day. (Our studio guest house at Faith's Farm
goes for that.) That would leave you with $15US, but that
is not all.

The Belize dollar is pegged to the US dollar 2 to 1, so that
$15US is $30BZ dollars. Our big meal of the day is at noon,
and you can buy a dinner with drink at the markets in
Belmopan and San Ignacio for $7-10BZ. That would leave
you with $20BZ.

Public bus fare is very reasonable. It cost $6BZ to go
between Belize City and Belmopan, and $2.50BZ to go
from Belmopan to San Ignacio. Stopping at villages in
between is even cheaper. Try to time your bus trips
after school and work commuter times. 10am to 3pm
is a good day window, and after 7pm at night. Otherwise,
you will be fighting for seats with luggage in your hands.

There are low cost attractions that are free to experience
Belize. Belmopan has the George Price Center, a museum
tribute to the Father of Belize. NICH has a museum, also.
Then there are the market days:
Belmopan : Tuesday and Friday
San Ignaico: Wednesday and Saturday
where local farmers, crafts people, and retailers
sell their goods in an open market.
Belmopan is a walkable city with its Ring Road
that takes you by government buildings, embassies,
ball fields, and residential areas.
The Art Box just outside Belmopan has a
great display of local art and crafts.
Guanacaste National Park costs $5BZ for the day
of hiking, swimming, and nature observing.
You can hang out with your hosts, too, who
have stories and experiences to share along
with some rum.
