Hey everyone!
I'm a husband, blockchain enthusiast, and I love adventures (kinda sounds like a horrible Tinder profile intro lol). I grew up in a bilingual/bi-cultural home. My father is American and my mother is Panamanian. I was lucky enough to have my mom take us kids down to Panama every couple years to see family, enjoy the country, and experience our cultural roots.
Then between 2011-2016 I spent three years living in Eastern Europe -- namely in the country of Moldova. I cam to love the people, languages, and culture. But most importantly, in my mind, I learned to further expunge bigoted tendencies I instilled in the closed-minded communities I grew up in; and I learned that imaginary national borders do not define us and should not divide us as human beings. My blind American patriotism made me prideful and made me look down on others from other countries and cultures. Now I see the error of my ways and can more fully love all people.
This change of heart never would have happened, though, if I had not immersed myself in the culture, language, and people that I lived with. If I simply experience my years abroad as a tourist -- as someone physically there but not emotionally or intellectually -- then I would've missed out on so much growth and amazing experiences!
THIS is why I want to start this blog/channel/etc. I want to show people how to step out of their comfort zone while travelling so they can knock down their personally contrived barriers against others' cultures, learn to embrace change, and come to love a people they never thought they could!
Plus, it's also pretty cool to see certain sights or places that only the locals know about :)
So with the (beta) introduction out of the way... I will be going to Russia this summer for a few weeks to enjoy the World Cup, travel, and to stay with my in-laws (yes, my wife is Russian). So, I have a question for all of you!
What aspects of Russian locations, culture, language, etc. would you like to see or know more about?
What sights do you suggest I visit?
