Northern Lights
Northern lights are formed when the solar particles come into contact with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere of the Earth. The colors of the lights depend on their height above the earth. At about 90-200 km altitude, stimulate the particles of oxygen, which causes the green or yellowish color that is most common. Red, purple and blue light, however, stem from stimulation of nitrogen.
The light is best seen on hilly skies and nights in the dark, where light pollution is minimal. Looking at beautiful northern lights may be a fairy tale, and they are something that no one who visits Iceland in wintertime should pass by.
The Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is a health and therapeutic center in the beautiful nature of Reykjanes.
With a visit to the Blue Lagoon, visitors get to their relationship with nature, soak up the view and enjoy bathing in the clean, fresh air while relaxing in warm soils.
It is no wonder that the readers of the "Conde Nast Traveler" magazine have voted the Blue Lagoon as the best spa in the world. Over the last ten years, the Blue Lagoon has received the environmental approval of the Blue Flag, which is awarded to companies that promote environmental protection on natural beaches and ports. It's even possible to stay at a hotel on the lagoon
The temperature of the water is 37-39 ° C. The lagoon has 9 million liters of geothermal sea, which is renewed every 40 hours. Regular tests show that common bacteria do not thrive in this ecosystem, so there is no need for added cleaners such as chlorine.
The Blue Lagoon Medical Clinic provides natural treatment for skin disease psoriasis. The medical profession is operated in cooperation with the Icelandic health authorities. The clinic is located in the middle of the lava range in Reykjanes where a powerful natural environment has a rejuvenating effect on body and mind. Bathing in Blue Lagoon groundwater known for its therapeutic and unique active substances: minerals, silica and algae.
As an Icelander I really enjoy going there for a nice relaxing spa, it's uncommon that a person from Iceland hasn't visited this beautiful work of nature!
