Thanks to the technology revolution we are now allowed to work from any place of the world. If your job can be performed online, the only prerequisite to work abroad is a good internet connection. There are a lot of countries that can be considered, but if you would like to go off the beaten path (Thailand), check out the following information. Here are some things you should know about Bulgaria.

Nature

Bulgaria has mountains, seaside, rivers, lakes, hot springs, caves. It is a small country and no matter where you live everything is close and just a few hours’ drive away. I love mountains and Bulgaria has 39 of them. Four of them are really big and quite different from each other. The Rhodope Mountains have magical pine forests and lakes. Orpheus used to live there. Rila Mountain has the highest peak on the Balkans and the famous 7 Rila Lakes. Pirin Mountain is the Bulgarian rocky mountain – it has the best views and I have never met a person who has been there and not fallen in love with it. The Old Mountain is the place where you can train yourself before going to Nepal. If you manage to complete its 600km famous trek you are guaranteed that every other trail will be a cakewalk.

I have never understood the people who like caving. I can’t imagine spending the whole day in a complete darkness while the sun is shining outside. I asked a friend of mine what does he like in that sport and he said that after a day inside of a cave, the grass is greener and the beer taste better. It sounds like a logical explanation. If you like caving Bulgaria have many opportunities and no one knows exactly how many caves are scattered around. I love the big ones and some of them are big enough to have a helicopter landing area inside. Have you seen a picture of eye-shaped holes in a cave? It is in Bulgaria.

Waterfalls are my favorite place in summertime. There are so many things you can do with a waterfall. You can sit back and enjoy the beauty; you can go under it; you can go behind it; you can jump in the water; you can drink a beer on a side of it… so many things to do! I was waterfall-hunting for years during the weekends and still, I manage to find pictures of places I haven’t been yet.

Food
Bulgaria has delicious food. I love vegetables and this is basically all I eat. I have been to more than 30 countries and never tried tomatoes that taste as good as the ones in Bulgaria. No matter how many “bio” signs the other countries put on their products, every old lady selling her own production on the streets of Sofia has better-quality vegetables. The only rule to have the best experience is to try to eat seasonal food.

Old towns
Bulgaria is considered one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is the only one who has had the same name since its beginning in the 7th century. So, according to that criteria, it should be even the oldest one. A lot of beautiful towns are preserving parts of the history and are great weekend escape if you live in the capital.

Climate

Bulgaria has four seasons! I do consider this as one of the greatest advantages. I know there are a lot of people out there that like the endless summer and beaches. But I find it so boring to only have one season. I love the blossom in the spring, the hot nights in the summertime, the changing colors of the forest in the autumn. Remember the mountains above? There are so fun covered with a snow. And also, so beautiful. Why would someone exchange this diversity for a sand? (: Not meant to be judgmental, just wondering.

Nightlife
I have heard that Sofia has a great nightlife and so does the seaside part. I always have to wake up early to go to the mountains, but I saw a lot of people coming home from a party in the morning. They always look like they had a lot of fun, so I can believe the above rumors are true.

Cost of living
Bulgaria remains the cheapest country in the European Union. It still operates in a local currency which is half of the EURO. So, if you are paid in euros, consider that you have twice more money to spend. Same goes for the prices. Everything will be at least two times cheaper than anywhere else in EU.

Finally, Bulgaria has the 6th place in the world for its 4G Internet speed. So, if you liked the pictures, come and see this amazing country by yourself.

All pictures are mine, except the ones where I am visible, those are someone’s else.

Looks nice. Great pics. I am thinking of moving to another country. Do you need English teachers?

We definitely need good ones. Mine was cutting his nails in class at school. That explains why I have so many grammatical mistakes :) Unfortunately, teachers in Bulgaria are not paid very high salary, which on other hand explains their behavior. Maybe private school or lessons can pay enough.

That's the problem with all the best places to live around the world. Some people are successful at teaching online, so maybe I could make it work. I'm from the UK, so if I want to work somewhere else in Europe I better go quick before Brexit.

I believe you can make a living teaching English online and if you move to Bulgaria your money will be worth much more than in UK. :) There are very cheap tickets with wizz air from London. I suggest you come and explore for a weekend and decide whether you like it or not. I bet you are going to like it ;)

I haven't been anywhere in Eastern Europe. I live in Korea, so it isn't too far from here. I hope to visit soon.

I live in Switzerland and couldn’t agree more, I wouldn’t like living in a country with just one season. Every season has its perks!

From what you write Bulgaria sounds very similar to Switzerland. Except for the cost of living. Here it’s just unbelievably expensive!

It is very expensive in Switzerland! That is why I have been postponing to visit it until I become rich :D. Switzerland has amazing mountains and it will be just a loss to not see them in all seasons :)

Wow, beautiful photos! Can't wait to visit Bulgaria in the future 💜

Looking forward to your visit :))
