Fort Ticonderoga Part #1 - The King's Garden

The Kings Garden

In a visit to New York to see some family, we all decided to visit the famous Fort Ticonderoga. After the exploation of the Fort we trekked to this often overlooked historic site: The King's Garden. Located near the fort is this amazingly depicted 18th-century narrative that was massively restored in the 20th century. The King's garden is one the oldest cultivated gardens in America.

This colorful colonial revival garden was created by Marian Coffin for the Pell family in the 1920’s. Enjoy this pictorial journey I wandered through in August a few years back.

There was an abundance of flowers, butterflies, and even a few chicken friends that came out to visit.

Our little friends toured around the garden clucking along the way. We weren't sure if they were welcoming us in hopes of some food or were covertly being the territorial guardians of this little sanctuary that they rest in.

As you continue to walk through the flower paths you will come upon patches of Autumn vegetation such as kale, pumpkin, and other squash.

On the far side of the garden is a beautiful green house where you can find herbs and other fruits that would be sensitive to the extremes of summer and winter.

As you reach the far side of the garden paths you will find yet another gate that allows entrance to a courtyard garden that surrounds the old Pell family home. It sadly was in much disrepair. However, we were told by the grounds keeper that restorations are and will continue to be under way. Inside you will find brick paths that move around the inner garden filled with more flora and trees abundant with crab apples.

Another little critter found its way crawling up the paths with us. I hoped it evaded the chickens that were finding their way into the inner sanctum of the property.
