Bangkok Tree House: Like Nothing Else!

It's hard to believe that this exists in the middle of one of the busiest, noisiest cities in the world...But it does.

The Amazing Bangkok Tree Houses:

Bang Krachao

Nestled in a bend in the river, Bang Krachao covers 20 square kilometres, and has been a designated green area for nearly 40 years. It is known as the green lungs of Bangkok and there are few roads in the area. Most transport is done by bicycle or on foot.

Bangkok Tree House

"Sleep in a tree, swim in a natural pond, take a carbon-free cooking class, eat organic vegetables grown on site, lounge on a green roof, shower alfresco under the moonlight - with water heated by sunlight, share the view of the river with white Cranes and blue Kingfishers. Welcome to the Bangkok Tree House."

Located in the tropical oasis of Bang Krachao is the unique lodgings of "Bangkok Tree House". A 5 minute boat ride from the busy suburb of Bang Na, and you cross the river and arrive in another world. The 12-room boutique hotel is blended perfectly with the mangroves upon which it is built. Surrounding the hotel are fruit orchards, farms and winding tracks. Many people in this area choosing to live a far simpler and traditional lifestyle.

I like a lot of things that they do at the hotel. For starters the entire area is smoke-free, and they will not spray to fumigate mosquitoes either, its nature deal with it. The hotel employs people from the local community who mostly walk to work and many of the ingredients for the kitchen come from their own farm or surrounding ones.

We managed to escape the madness of Bangkok for a weekend and spend a night here. It was wonderful. In the afternoon we lay on the day-bed on our roof-top and watched the sun go down, then later that night we were taken on a firefly boat tour with a local fisherman. The sky was black and the night was silent. By the time we returned to Bangkok the next afternoon we felt as if we had been away for a week.

It costs about 6000 baht or $180us per night, which makes it a mid-upper price hotel, however it doesn't have all the luxuries of a Hilton or Sheraton. The Tree House may not be for everyone, but if you like to get back to nature and experience something different then I highly recommend it on your trip to Bangkok.
