Did you know that Chile has the largest number of active volcanoes in South America, and the fifth largest number of active volcanoes in the world!
Chile has the 2nd largest volcano chain the world, right after Indonesia! The country has approximately 2,000 volcanoes which are mainly located along the Andes mountain range. This chain is a part of what's called "the Pacific Ring of Fire", a chain consisting of nearly half of the earth's volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean.
Chile has about 500 volcanoes that are considered active, and 60 of which have had recorded eruptions in the last 450 years. The volcanoes with the most recorded eruptions are: Llaima, Villarrica, Antuco Volcano, Planchón-Peteroa, Lonquimay and Calbuco.
