Retezat National Park is breathtaking scenery located in the south-west of Romania; you may not talk about the parks in Romania without mentioning the Retezat National Park. In fact, this park is a one stop site for passionate hikers, wilderness and tourism enthusiasts. Romania owes its origin of national parks to Retezat as it the oldest park established in 1935. No matter how little time you may want to spend in Europe as a visitor, you can’t afford to miss a visit to this park; this will reveal the real beauty of Romania to you.

Retezat National Park covers about 380SQ Km with another 710 SQ km of restricted area. Having over 80 magical glacial lakes including Bucura which is the largest glacier lake and Zanoaga being the deepest glacier lake in Romania, it stands out when it comes to tourist parks with the name ‘blue eye land.’ The park is surrounded by the cultural scenery of the local communities around which will leave you wishing you had visited earlier. With peaks of over 2000 metres, it is arguably the park with the highest number of mountain peaks in Romania. Also, this park features a whole lot of plants species that you hardly find outside of it; this contributes to the uniqueness of this great park

However, you may not find a spacious route that leads to this park because of its remote location. Even if you come with your car, you will have to get down at some point to walk on foot while you enjoy the nature. Of course, the trekking is worth it as you will leave the park with a memorable experience. It is important to note that there are various wildlife animals in the restricted area of the Retezat National Park, this park houses over 20% of all European terrestrial mammals, 55 animal species and about 120 birds such as the Chiffchaff, Nutcracker, the rare Golden Eagle and several other birds. Some people visit this park to just to watch birds solely; this gives an insight of the numerous birds that a visitor can watch interestingly.

You may not be wrong to address this fun-filled park as a hiker’s dreamland because of its rock and tall peaks. Retezat has over 20 mountain peaks of which Peleaga is the highest with a maximum height of about 2500 metres. A view from peleaga reveals other abrupt peaks as well the fascinating scenery of other beautiful lakes in the park; it can be reached easily somewhat by passing the Bucura lake. Areas that are potentially dangerous are separated clearly throughout the park.
There are also other nearby attractions you can also explore in Romania, but while in the Retezat Park, camping is restricted to specified places which are designated. When you talk about areas in the world where nature still holds high, the Retezat National Park is one of the leading names. You can enjoy the unspoilt beauty of nature as a tourist, hiker or even a wilderness lover.
