Pier Fishing Wrightsville Beach, NC

If I said I am a super outdoorsy person, I would be such a phony. In theory I love nature, but in reality I do not enjoy some of the elements that come with it. I hate heat and bugs. Oddly enough, I've always enjoyed fishing. I find it relaxing. I talked my husband into taking me to go pier fishing a few years ago. We went early March, so there was still a chill in the air. When pier fishing, it gets pretty windy. Here is a photo of my husband all bundled up.

We weren't successful at catching anything, but it was still a nice visit and pretty relaxing to listen to the waves crash against the pier. I saw a huge shark while we were fishing, which I found intimidating since that was my first time ever spotting a shark in the ocean. I love this area because there are many beaches around including Wrightsville Beach, Kure Beach, Carolina Beach. I've been to all the piers at each beach, and out of the three, Kure Beach's pier is my favorite just because there is a shop on it that sells the best ice cream!

I haven't tried fishing. That is something I would have to do yet. I have tried fishing in a fish pond maybe once but I like to try in the river or sea. They say it's about patience and I can do patience :D

I love fishing in moving water way better than stagnant water. Ponds tend to attract mosquitoes and other bugs, also because the water is stagnant, it usually stinks. It moving water, like an ocean or a river it creates a better ambiance. Less bugs, and the sound of the moving water is very relaxing.

The ponds I like are those that are not stagnant. The school I attended back in high school have ponds like that. They water the pond continuously so that the water is always fresh. It does attract bugs though.

That's good that it was on moving water! At least with moving water it is not a mosquito breeding spot.

I would have been really intimidated by the shark as well. Even though I love the beach i'm always afraid of a random shark swimming on up haha. I'v only fishing a few times in my life and never caught anything but I find it more about the experience. Of course getting a nice fish is exciting and can make an awesome dinner but I love just having a really relaxing day with friends, drinking some beers, chatting and just enjoy the time.

I completely agree with you on the outdoors comments. There are outdoor activities I love but there are just times when nature can ruin the experience for me. I have a lot of experiences like this although most of them were ruined because of my poor preparation. Once my friendsd and I went camping with holey tents we rented. We didn't realize it at first and it rained on us like crazy and we had to sleep in cold puddles inside our tents. One of my last camping trips I just didn't bring enough thick clothes for cold weather because I underestimated the temperature changes going up so high on a mountain.

I hear ya! One time my mom took us to Carowinds Theme Park when I was a small child, and we camped at their campground. However, there was a Grateful Dead concert going on in the area, so there a deadhead who beat on a drum all night long over and over again. The campground was full of deadheads and the aroma of marijuana. It seems like my experiences with nature can kind of miss the mark sometimes too. I love fishing though because it is really relaxing.

Beautiful beach. I was in South Carolina and saw red killer ants. Scary. I'm from Oregon. Love ice-cream. Great photos here. Thanks for sharing. I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold. Happy Easter 2018.
