Earlier this week, we went to Poulsbo for a get-away day trip to celebrate our anniversary. 😊
Instead of taking a ferry from Seattle waterfront to Bainbridge island, we took the long way because Mr. Travels was tired of the being on the water (we went to Alaska 7-night cruise not long ago). It took us 1.5 hour driving all the way south to Tacoma, then up north through Bremerton.
Tacoma
Both of us went there before, but it was always with a purpose. We had a schedule, we drove there, did what we were supposed to do, and then we left. This time, we took our time to walk up and down the street, went to check out Washington State History Museum, where you can see how the flood, glacier, volcano eruption shaped the state landscape; we walked on the bridge connecting the History museum to the Glass museum, where they put hundreds of glass vases into display; we stopped by a local coffee shop, where you can get black and white mocha.
Poulsbo
It’s smaller than I thought, definitely. But the town is absolutely adorable, with cute little shops, restaurants and bakeries. When we got to in JJ’s Fish House, I picked up a seat facing the water. The restaurant was just by the Liberty Bay Waterfront Park, and you can enjoy the calming view of water and little islands in the far distance. I always dream of one day we’ll spend a fortune on an ocean view house, so I can grab a book and spend the entire afternoon on the patio, but times like this tell me I don’t need to wait for those dreams, there are so many other little ways that can give you a similar experience.
Seabeck
When we got off the high way to fill the tank, we stumbled into this little paradise. It is more like a curved bay, and water here is turquoise. We parked the car, and stood by the fence, looking at the massive water and talking about the upcoming travel plan.
**Key Travel Tips: **
Normally drive takes the same amount of time as Ferry+Drive: 1.5-2 hours. AM and PM peak time drive takes longer, but you may also have to wait for the next ferry if there is long line in front of you for the ferry.
Poulsbo is fairly small, 1-2 hours is plenty enough. If you want to do a day trip, you'll want to add a couple of more stops along the way or in the area, like we did.
