Moran Folk 5-Day Market is the biggest 5-day market in Korea and spontaneously began in around 1962. It is the rare folk market in the metropolitan area (very close to Seoul) which opens on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th days of each month where you can feel the flavor of an old market. Flower shops, grain shops, herb shops, clothing shops, shoes shops, fancy goods shops, fishery shops, vegetable shops, misc shops, food shops, pepper shops, pet shops and livestock shops are located in order from its entrance.
There's nothing you can't find in Moran Folk 5-Day Market. There are a lot of markets in Korea but it is the biggest and the most popular market among all of them. You can find food, spectacles, and amusements... Sharing affection among people hustling in and out of the market, our ladies negotiating prices and generous shop owners giving more than what was paid for. Beautiful flowers and vases welcome visitors from the entrance and you can see sweet rice, beans, brown rice, corns and other grains along with green tea leaves, heartleaves, ginseng and all the novel herbs. You can also see the specialty of the market, puffed rice. Its sweet scent stops the footsteps of the visitors.. You can hear people humorously shouting 'bombing' ‘Bombing’ while the guy makes puffed rice. You cannot complete your experience in the market without enjoying its food. There are a lot of cart bars attracting visitors with various menus such as fried chickens, pancakes, noodle soup, red bean porridge and rice soup. There are also hotdogs, fish cake skewers and sweet rice doughnut for refreshments. You can smell the freshness of cutlass fish, mackerels, squids and clams. There are also plenty of seasonal farm products and fruits. Cute dogs and cats await their new owners. Get refreshed and reminisce the memories lost in time by sharing warmth with others in the market. The market is expected to be remodeled and will open again in 2015 with contemporary design while maintaining its traditional and folk concepts in 2015.
