This weekend I had the pleasure of doing some sightseeing. We are discussing Plitvice Lakes, the most visited natural site in Croatia. Every tourist with a trip planned to make the most of our small country has this national park on his list. And not without a reason!

In this heavily forested national park, crystalline (literally!) lakes tumble and warp into each other through a series of waterfalls and cascades.

I don’t know what’s in the waters to make it so powerful but they carve through the rock, depositing tufa in continually changing formations.

It’s also teeming with life! Clouds of butterflies drift and flutter above many kilometers of wooden footbridges and pathways that snake around the edges of lakes and across the rumbling waters of waterfalls.

Right now the entry is 150 kuna ($24), but don’t worry, you’ll probably stay the whole day and food inside is actually pretty affordable (if not luxurious). Price includes boat and bus rides from and to key locations.
