Old castles always draw me in with their mysteries. ‘Grumpy Old Ghost’ would be an awesome beer name? Style? Maybe a roasty bitter porter?
My travels led me to a small hamlet called Virovitica. About two hours drive from the capitol.
If you aim for middle of nowhere in Croatia this is your go-to town. Small population of a bit above 20 thousand.
Only thing of interest to tourist who got lost in their conquest towards the sea would be the strict city centre. I hear people generally don’t approve of flamboyantly colored facades. Across it, there is some Vienna style architecture.
Beyond the park - the Pejačević Castle. I’ve read it is renovated but they must have meant ‘under renovation’. Anyway a great example of Baroque architecture (built in 1800-1804). Right now a health hazard.
I kind of broke in to take a peek inside. But really nothing interesting to see.
This little guy in the city center might be a typical example of a member of HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union).
Every good hangout should end in beer. This one was no different and when you are close to a royal abode order a royal beer - Tomislav (first Croatian king - allegedly).
