These are photos I took on my way to the summit of Volcan Villarrica near Pucon, Chile.

Volcan Villarrica from the town of Pucon in Chile... as you can see, it was VERY active!

Our group preparing to make the ascent!

Taking a rest about half way up...

The Andes in the distance...

You can see other groups starting their climb at the base...

Majestic views

Lake Villarica

Fumes coming out of the top of the Volcano!

A fellow adventurer at the summit...

All in all it only took about 4 hours to reach the top and about 1.5 hours down.

Going down was the most fun, we slid on our ass down narrow grooves in the snow using our ice axe as a brake!

If you want to do this adventure yourself, just show up in Pucon, Chile. There are outfitters who will guide you and rent you all of the equipment. Best time to go is in their summer (December-March).
