Our Epic Road Trip across the southwest continued as we traveled from Roswell, NM to Sedona, Arizona. Along our route we were searching for gas stations and noticed we were about to approach the Petrified Forest National Forest in Arizona.
We made a last minute choice to detour, and I am SO glad we did. The views were stunning, although the wind was crazy strong.
We saw the beautiful colors of the mineralized land, petrified trees, and beautiful dessert.
I wasn't able to get a great pic, but we also saw petrigliphs over 2,000 years old. The whole gang of us wanted to stay longer, but we were on our way to Sedona and had to settle for a drive through tour.
Next time I would like to hike the trails and really experience the petrified and crystal forests.

Wow this landscape is amazing, It's so flat and sparse. Do you know anything about these petroglyphs? I guess a lot of these things are a mystery

They call it newpaper rock, it has thousands of markings and images. Probably a community board of some sort 2,000 years back!

Fascinating photography! If it weren't for the road photo, this scenery would almost look like somewhere in the space.
