Church-desensitized

One of the days on my extempore Budapest visit I dedicated completely for just walking around and checking some attractions. I have some standards though (or maybe I'm just a tight-ass), because I don't like to pay for visiting them. Well, for some places I'm more ok with paying than with other places, and the places I usually refuse to pay for entrance are churches.

"You gotta see it!" my Honduran friend said when talking about the church.

"I don't know, man, I've seen so many churches already."

"But this one is special."

"That's what your mom said while having you."

^{Just kidding, I came up with the last line while writing this, it suits pretty well though, don't you think?}

I might've become church-desensitized, because I didn't really give a crap, especially when upon entering the church, and the first thing asked for me was a ticket. They want tickets everywhere in Europe to enter these churches - tourism has taken over them. I'm not saying this is good or bad, whatever, I don't really care. Sure, this is how some people get their money and the bread on their table, I don't have any problem with it. Maybe sometimes few coins accidentally go to a good cause even, like maintenance.

But a few months ago I accidentally stumbled upon real service, and I know that a place with people who are there just for the sake of seeing cool stuff just isn't going to be the same as what I experienced when the people were actually believing in this higher power that the space was dedicated for.

Sure, it looks pretty nice, but I've yet to see God give me food from heaven, and as long as that ain't happening, I ain't paying for churches either. Maybe I would make an exception for that one church in Barcelona though, was it, that's being crowdfunded completely by donations, the one I remember @tarazkp having posted about.
