Things to Know about Ilam, Nepal

Introduction

Ilam is a municipality of Ilam,District which is situated in the hilly region of Mechi zone, in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal.  Geographically it lies in the hill region which is mostly known as  Mahabharata range. It is also regarded as one of the major place in Nepal for tea-production. It is famous for  natural scenery and landscapes, tea production, and diverse  agricultural economy. It is one of the major horticultural crop production districts of Nepal.

Climate

It is cold and freezing in the winter,mild warm in summer and fogg in  the monsoon season. Many tourists come to Ilam for sight seeing of the  natural beauty. In the context of climate, It is the best district of  Nepal for living. 

Antu Danda

The beautiful hill in the district, Antu Danda is one of the best places in ilam  to view the spectacular sight of sunrise, sunset and the Himalayas.  This 2,328m high hill overlooks the Terai flatlands, terraced hills of  cash crops, tea gardens and thick pine forests.

 

Mai Pokhari 

It consists the natural forest is surrounded by the thick  forest of fir, juniper, birch and pine and accommodates various species  of flora and fauna that includes different species of orchids,  rhododendron, herbs and rare animals like musk deer, leopard, porcupine  and jackal and various birds and rare insects.


Sandakpur

It is located at the height of 3,636m on the  international Nepal-India borderline and provides panoramic views of the  Himalayas like Mt.  Kanchanjunga, Mt. Kumbhakarna, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Everest. The  forest in this area provides shelter to the rare wildlife like red  panda, musk deer and Danphe.


Kanyam 

The places with large tea estates in Ilam which has been famous for the last hundred and forty years is Kanyam. These estates are famous among the national and international tourists  as a great place for picnic, sightseeing and taking photographs.


Apart from this,  There are many other places renowned for as Natural Beauties. The municipality also became first in Nepal to ban plastic  bags from the market, this is the great success all over the Nepal.
