Europe is the first overseas travel destination after COVID-19. 81% of respondents answered they would travel abroad within one year after the travel restrictions.
This is the result of a survey conducted by the French Tourism Agency on travel trends since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March. More than half of the respondents (62%) were millennials.
Europe took the overwhelming first place with a 68% response rate as the first overseas travel destination after COVID-19. Others are Asia with 13.1% and Southeast Asia with 7.8%.
81% of respondents said they would leave within one year after travel restrictions. Among them, 29% answered within 1-4 months the most. Also, 28% answered within 6 months and 24% answered within 1 year.
In the post-COVID-19 journey, hygiene and safety are also important factors that travelers consider.
78.9% of respondents said that compliance with quarantine rules, such as temperature checks and hand sanitizer, was a must-have for travel destinations. In addition, regular quarantine and disinfection within the facility (68.5%), the obligation for individual visitors to wear a mask (59,4%), and flexible options for product cancellation or refund (44.5%) were answered in that order.
People selected festivals and large-scale events as the most reluctant to participate due to hygiene issues. In addition, 90% of respondents said they would like to visit France in 2022 if there are no travel restrictions. The most popular activities to enjoy while traveling in France were visiting tourist attractions such as museums and historical sites (65.4%). Travel to major cities and travel to small towns accounted for 43% and 30.6%, respectively.
