Working While Traveling - Balancing Freedom and Responsabilities

When I was 25 years old, I set out to create a mobile lifestyle, to seek out a way to "work" so that I can be anywhere around the world. That quest took me 5 years to fully accomplish...which was well worth the countless moments of despair, doubt and uncertainty.

But just like any goal, once you attain it, you have to figure out how it plays out in your daily life.

Balancing Work and Travel

Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining about my situation. But I think it's good to notice that there is no freedom that doesn't come with a corresponding level of responsibility. Working while travelling, I'm realizing now more than ever is a balancing act. When there is no boss breathing down your neck, have to set your own priorities and work with very little structure then you have to impose those on yourself.

Scheduling and Timing

One of the most difficult part for me is timing and schedule. When I'm in my home environment, I have a routine and a schedule I can follow. Also, I'm wired to do my best work early in the morning between 8am and noon. After that, my productivity gets a diminishing return. But then, since my partner is located 9 Hours earlier than me (while I'm in Italy), I have to start working at 5pm in order to sync with him.

Resisting to Temptations

While being in Italy, it is a constant fight to get me to sit in front of my desktop. I mean, there are so many amazing things to do and see here...who wants to sit in front of a computer screen for 8 hours when you are perched at the top of Capri Island?

Conclusion

If you have the desire to reach for a "mobile" lifestyle like I did, realize that their are drawbacks. Everything comes at a cost. When I first pursued it, I didn't realize that I also had to give up on certain things such as having co-workers I meet everyday and a more balanced social life and a regular schedule that allows me to leave work with a clear conscience rather than work being 5 feet away from me 24h a day. It may sound ridiculous but those little things matter once you don't have them anymore.

No matter how much of a good planner we think we are, life always have its own plan awaiting us.

You are right @cryptoctopus I quited my job and I have been living the mobile lifestyle, steemit and other online activities and within this period i have gotten lots of complaints from previous colleagues and friends about not been available, I thought been self employed will come that easy but i really miss alot of things.

I think I’ll realize it when I go to Pakistan in 3 weeks . I was saying how I’ll psot 2 times a day and ty to comment a lot . But then I know it’s not possible because when you’re somewhere else and especially with family , things always come up. Plus Pakistan sucks with electricity . But I’m going to try to enjoy the little moments while I’m there and Steemit can tag along the ride .

I bet you’re having fun, psot more pictures !!

It is very difficult to do post quantities for days, steemit is a hobby where you can entertain or report interesting topics.

greeting from the other continent.

It’s not , for me this is a passion . I am committed to this paltform and always try to provide quaility content in every post

That's the idea, keep it up.

Scheduling and timing has never been an issue for me, but resisting temptations.....oh well!! That's a story of it's own LOL!!

P.S. : The steemauto auto upvote finally worked haha. It just isn't instant that's all. I waited for a few hours for this post and the vote eventually went through (even though it was set to a wait time of zero minutes).

I've had problems with it as well. I used to work for me, but lately, it hasn't worked at all.

One of the first things I realized when I told my wife I'd like to set out on my own for a more mobile life was when she said O great you'll be here all day everyday so you can help with errands and such.

The first thing I realized when planning to set out on my own is that I will need to rent a space so that I can separate work and life because my wife will have a hard time respecting those boundaries.

Actually makes me reconsider setting out on my own and just finding a 9 - 5 job that I can tolerate while still being able to work on the "mobile" projects I want to work on.

Yeah, making work your hobby and hobby your work;)

The co-workers and the 'working environment' are indeed the only things that keep me at my job at the moment. They are a very valuable yet often understimated thing. I'm currently not very active on Steem, since I haven't got the words to describe what I'm gonna do as I'm still thinking about it. But I'm almost certain I'm be doing some very major changes career-wise in the near future.

I like working with people as well. You can find places to sometimes co-work with other nomads, which makes it less lonely. But also sometimes it's distracting if you try to work with too many people at once. You just end up talking and laughing instead :)

good job

wow very nice post and good job

I completely agree with you, my friend, when you are far from your usual life and you travel it is always difficult to plan the rest and work. I did experience the same inconvenience for a long time when I had to go on business from home and I confess to you honestly, it does bring not convenience, but on the other hand we have the opportunity to add new images to the Steemit and your journey through Italy is an excellent example! Thank you @cryptoctopus

I always love to work in a proper schedule because it engage me in the work and stop me from thinking rubbish things. But it sometimes become difficult when you are out of normal workplace. I like your dedication towards your work, keep us motivating and encouraging us in our difficult times.

@cryptoctopus - Sir having a job, we framed into a schedules & tasks... As you said it's there is a boss who is ready to breathing down our neck... My husband got that experience Sir... Not only the boss, his schedules made by his clients too... But I got a little freedom... It doesn't mean I don't have schedules... But in family environment I got a little free time than a regular job...
When talking about financial freedom, Steemit made that freedom... I love it, but sometimes it's little hard to keep on track... But I'm trying to keep in that track Sir... Because, I'm addicted to Steemit Sir...

+W+

If you have the desire to reach for a "mobile" lifestyle like I did, realize that their are drawbacks.

Yup, there are but these drawbacks can be minimized with proper and planned time management thing. You can do your work wherever you are in the world in a timely manner! Ah, I also have a wish to free myself from a job slavery! I wish I could achieve my objective this year!

I wished a lifestyle like this, but i definetly dont have the needed discipline.
If had to travel to work, i would only work if i had an specific job to do at that place... Or else i would definetly get distracted with every new thing i saw around me.

I would suck at that.......

@cryptoctopus,
Actually I wish to be a free guy! In current moment I am having a huge stress at my workplace and STEEM and STEEMIT is the place which is deducting my stress level! Specially financial free that's what I am talking about!
I got a boss who is willing to take the last breath of all co-workers under him! So, with STEEM and STEEMIT atleast now I got a chance to build a future! Your article which is full of your experience helped me to build my dream true! Actually I want to build that dream! I will do!

Cheers~

Thank you for this post. How long do plan to stay in italy.. i would love to see more pictures.

there are so many amazing things to do and see here...who wants to sit in front of a computer screen for 8 hours when you are perched at the top of Capri Island?
no more schedules work when you are out of home to a travel. your experience is giving a valauble input to discuss this matter. we all hope to stay home, do travels & earn decently. you highlighted negative side of practical situation. impressive article @cryptoctopus

@resteemia

While I understand that having a mobile lifestyle comes at the cost of co-workers, I imagine that you can meet quite a lot of interesting people with common interests and lifestyles, and if you spend time with them regularly, I think a structured schedule might actually form itself.

Hi @cryptoctopus, I got what you mean. Like I think for most of us here, we dream of having your lifestyle. A life without being tied up to a 9 to 5 job, and a boss whose breathing on your neck every minute. I have been dreaming whole of my life to work from home. Having found Steemit was like the best thing to work my way towards achieving my dream. And sometimes when I got to take leave and sit at home to do my things like doing Steemit, there are so many other things that's just making me distracted from doing what I want to do. So I really understand what you mean. And I am sure when the time has come I will have to make sure that I manage to cope with the time management and meanwhile embrace the moment living on a mobile lifestyle. Stay blessed and Steem On!

I really think that you are badass, balancing your life this way. I do respect that you give some things up, just to make content for Steemit. It looks like you really have something to give in this community and you can find it back in your posts.

I just want to say I really enjoy reading your posts and it is kickass to travel around the world and let everyone see how things are there with amazing pictures ;)

Please keep doing what you are doing right now, your life will be more balanced as you grow, and you will grow.

@shawnvanderveer, This is a very inspirational comment , really i impressed reading your comment. In this any situation, we have to maintain our balanced to survive in our compitition of our life.

We do indeed ;)

Thank you for your good response.

@cryptoctopus, you just described my reality at the moment.

Whatever decision we make, we must learn how to ensure other areas of our life doesn't suffer or pay for it.

I found it very difficult when i first started but i am adjusting gradually to it right now.

what steps did you take to ensure you remain focused and productive?

Everything comes at a cost

Be it you work under someone or not, the world surely has a way of balancing itself.

We all decide to live a care free life not depending on a boss, no someone to order us around or having to wake up each morning and not having to answer the call Yes Sir.

We all want to have that expensive trip abroad spend some quality time with our family and friends but still everything comes at a cost.

Great to know you never gave up on your dreams, this post should be tag motivation as it acts as a motivator when you see someone progress in whatever they decided to achieve a long time ago

There is no perfect "life".

I guess it is the grass is always greener syndrome. We think there is something better over "there" only to realize there are challenges one we get to that place also.

The idea of a mobile, freeing life is appealing to many especially those of us tied to the same town, same job, same office. I watched a film on Netflix about a couple who picked up, left Berlin, and traveled North America on a bus. One thing that struck me is they ultimately got to the point where all they wanted to do was settle down.

Travel is great but it is always nice to get back home to your own pillow as they say. Living out of a suitcase can get old after a while.

The balance you mention gets tougher as Steemit becomes a bigger part of my life (and future plans). I am more of an all or none guy which can be very unhealthy. It is something I am working on by I can get tunnel vision to the exclusion of all others.

Thanks for the reminder.

It is true what you mention about mobile work, because you get away from the social environment and what you have around you is your family, so it is always good to look for balance, what I do is to do sport with friends and not have social relations.

hahaha nice if i say true i think we should have a better shedule for our life and if we are on work we try to do best and should do our duty and must understand our resposiblities to do our job exellent as we can
and other side if we are on travel we should forget our work for a while to enjoy our life and travel because i think we work and earen for make our life more luxury and relaxy and if we dont make ourselves easy on your free time there is no reason to work for oursleves
i like your all journeys and really enjoy always to see when you share with us beautifull photographs and give your reviews on all these best and beautifull places and this photo is shwoing this island as dreamy place..
so 100% enjoy yourslef on you journey and forget every thing about your work in these days @crytoctopus

You are totally correct,

But I think it's good to notice that there is no freedom that doesn't come with a corresponding level of responsibility.

Freedom must come with responsibilities, some times these responsibilities makes us want to give up on some certian things or even the freedom itself.

These should be the basis of the decision

If you have the desire to reach for a "mobile" lifestyle like I did, realize that their are drawbacks

You must weigh the draw backs before you choose a life steyle
Thanks for sharing.

I believe when you have total freedom, maintaining a high productivity is a matter of discipline.

This is why I believe having a strong discipline is extremely important if we want to accomplish our goals. Discipline is what makes the difference.

The temptation to do fun stuff will always be there no matter what. Its up to us if we remain productive or surrender to the leisure activities.

While being in Italy, it is a constant fight to get me to sit in front of my desktop. I mean, there are so many amazing things to do and see here...who wants to sit in front of a computer screen for 8 hours when you are perched at the top of Capri Island?

Italy is a wonderful place to be in...blogging can wait while you enjoy yourself for a while, hahaha 😁😁Life is too short let's enjoy the better part of it.

The photos are really nice. Love from Nigeria.

Its not easy to work while you are travelling especially you are in beautiful country italy but we can't escape from our responsibilities because "The real freedom of any individual can always be measured by the amount of responsibility which he must assume for his own welfare and security." Enjoy travelling and keep working along.

well good to read this and know some your thought but i think we cannot ignore the both sides of our life we are living on this earth with our seprate thinking and seprate life styles every one think and do in thier own style but i think must do some which our heart say us to see the occasion and point wehre we are stand this time and pick oppurtunity to believe on our sleves and our heart order
hope we alwasy enjoy our work and traveling because boths are the different things and bring some good and different experienc of life
your travel in italy and rome is good and i think you are enjoying it with your own style as you think it better on that spot

It is wonderful when you have something busy with and you are. Insistent at it. Determination and persistence are the keys to sustainable growth.

But I think it's good to notice that there is no freedom that doesn't come with a corresponding level of responsibility.

This is very correct. Even in your freedom, there is always this responsibility to keep your sanity. The responsibility to do things without procrastination. The responsibility to be focused and to plan.

As fun as travel looks, it doesn't mean being idle or being extravagant. You could be working while on a trip too, as you said. Good one there @cryptoctopus.

This is the great initiative to own work and also love to own work . Because of that He is success man of steemit.

I agree with this. But sometimes it can be challenging to work while on a trip. As @cryptoctopus said, he was in Capri Island in Italy. Damn that place is beautiful. How will you work when you know that there is a thousand sights you could see . Kinda difficult! 😊

Really I can imagine how it feel, balancing work on transit, mobile life style is sure interesting and for me more preferable, rather than having that day to day tension of resuming at the office at 8:am

But lots of things are always traded to achieve this.

Nice write up @cryptoctopus

Actually this is the expression of writers and photographers creative thoughts. This is the great quality to impress for their visitors. Day by day @cryptoctopus is growing up and earning more popularity.

I can't imagine that one can fulfil his desire(which looks like impossible)in practical life.
But you did it @cryptoctopus and I must appreciate you on it. Definitely if you do something out of the box then you have to sacrifice some personal things.
Great share Sir, keep it up and stay blessed!

Desires carefully following with all amount of focus can be fullfilled which he did. Now, according to @cryptoctopus which I totally agree..

everything comes with a cost

A cost of action that must be paid to reach your desire or goal and a cost that must be paid for even operating on accomplished goal.

@Cryptoctopus you lesson is well shared and received by me. Thanks for sharing.

having co-workers might be the best thing that gives tradition works.
But im not ready to change my life for that

Great post. I say that all depends on what kind of person you are. I just hate regular jobs. Everything is better than doing some work just to pay the bills. For me most important think is to DO WHAT YOU LOVE. Period.

Your work is about your travel experience, it makes it much easier for you. I bet you love it and you enjoy it.

This is very excellent. I am now 20 years of age and I am trying to build a program to change my life. I have steered and I felt that it is a golden opportunity for me to change my life so I try to form myself here and I hope that I will succeed in that.
You manage yourself .. There is no one to force you to wake up every day at 7 or maybe early on, so you can get to your work place on time. No one asks you for tasks you can not afford to implement, or asks you to deal with people you do not like dealing with. There is no need for you to achieve a Target goal that penalizes you for failing.

You are not associated with holidays, public holidays, weekly, monthly, or annual. You can go anywhere anytime. You can travel for any number of days without being linked to the balance of available holidays or subject to deduction from the salary. You can spend longer and better time with your family.

Working from home gives you plenty of wasted time to go to and from work, providing you with a lot of stress and contact with people everywhere, from the moment you walk out of the house and return home.

You work in your personal goals, achieve your career aspirations, not the goals and aspirations of others. You work for yourself directly, and you are not anchored in entities larger than you.

The models of freedom to work are unlimited, and their narrative takes a lot, but you touch it from the first day you decide to work for yourself.

But as much as it refers to freedom, it also refers to self-responsibility. You are a mature person who knows your obligations well and chooses the style of free work that would cover those obligations, through a high level of discipline.

You work in what you love
Thanks for sharing. @cryptoctopus

and in the end it was worth all that effort @cryptoctopus

Really i liked your great shots..i learned about Pompeii which it wasn’t irrelevant, it was a huge shock to the Roman world when it was destroyed.
Pompeii was in an area that Rome’s rich and famous built their holiday homes. It was to Rome what the Hamptons are to New York.
It was like someone wiped out Bridgehampton and Montauk, and sent a cloud of ash drifting over Fire Island. Not to mention it took out several naval ships in the vicinity, one of which had the Roman equvilant of John McCain (or Joe Biden) on board. In that scenario everyone in New York would be appalled by the news. Partially because they were horrified by the loss of life, partially because they were wondering how much the value of their second home had been damaged.

the work accompanied by effort will lead you towards the reward @cryptoctopus

At times that your stress levels are on an all time high, take the time off. Seize the opportunity of having a well deserved vacation. You will be relaxed, refreshed and will have the much needed energy to conquer the world. A bit exaggerated? Fine, you will have that new perspective when reviewing those work piles you left behind. Lol.

You are so right. Right now you have succeeded in your plan. Sometimes things we leave behind Do matter. I guess everything has to do with balance. Not to leave much behind.
Thanks again for a nice article

In order to become free and happy, you must sacrifice boredom. It is not always easy to bring such a victim. It all depends on the person of his character. Thank you. Great post for reflection.

Having your kind of lifestyle means you will have to give up on some of the growing experiences and even friends you had. Nice post!

Yes of course, the little things you do will certainly be missed when the bigger things come to play!

A very scary house I can not afford the highlands but the sea view is very beautiful I wish I had a house like this one day

Every job has its own difficulties. It is important to do business with pleasure and I think you enjoy your job. Thank you for sharing your opinion with us.

I prefer working in one place without having to travel too much - I might find it fun and educating to fly to a conference once a year in the USA or something like that but I do find that for me, and I guess for most people - it's much more normal to be in one constant place - what with family and friends that will really miss you (and vice versa) when you are away.

I know that there are people who like travelling, they see new places and meet new traditions and they really need this excitement to spice their everyday life, and it's totally legitimate.
I guess there is a scale to this question - some prefer being stationary and some prefer travelling, fortunately - we can always travel on trips - there are some cheap options and fulfill that need when it arises.

Dreamy. I do not know if it 's nice to live there. it looks a bit scary. If I left my lover I guess I was there to commit suicide haha :)

:) It must be hard to work while traveling ..
there is not any job easier already! Most people I might think you won you from where you sit. I'm sure you've come a long way to come to this level!
it is difficult but always successful. I work as well as I can. I am striving to produce quality content. I'm not sleeping ... I did not get much benefit. maybe one day, someone will notice! anyway ... life conditions are hard in the country where I live. I try not to think too much. Thank you for your lovely and sincere expression. I'm sorry for my bad english

Thank you @Cryptoctopus for sharing. Like you've said, you are not complaining. I believe you shared this so that those of us seeking or desiring some kind of "out of this world" kind of lifestyle and exceptional freedom may know that such a life has its cost.
.
I always look forward to your articles because it usually have valuable lessons to get from it.

Thanks for always sharing valuable contents.

I am @desmonddesk

Determination and persistence are the keys to sustainable growth. As rotein can not be maintained in a travel because you are entered in a new environment that is completly change from you environment
I also faced smae situation because of the environment although i have no work but a morning walk and doing exercise can not be done on a travel witth me
Thanks for sharing your experience of travel and doing work with in travel keep it up i wish you all the best
enjoy your life with a great travel hope you ahve a good day stay blessed

5 years its a long time to pursue something, but you did well, whatever you did, actually that a hard thing, for pursuing something and you just kick out all your other social life, Yor are totally right, but i think when you have a whale of a responsibility like steemit, than you have to be good in manage all your schedules, as you mentioned you paid a cost for getting through all of this, but once you relize how much now people love your work, admire your work, when ever you contribute in the steemit its worth for us, and i think that the thing which balances all the other pressure, which you just set aside, now you are better one, who know to handle it.
Keep sharing such amazing traveling, that inspires us, encourage us, and the most happening thing it built a community which is forever.
Thanks a lot #Cryptoctopus you are doing well job...
Blessed you...
Steem On...

not for months or even years of holidays, both disrupts your mental health and reduces your work efficiency in a serious manner. Travel away from everyday routines and problems will allow you to return to work with a better energy. You can stay alone with yourself or with your loved ones, and you can collect your private life that you have neglected. You have to decide how much communication you will have with the office. Dilerseniz can only reply at certain times of the day during the holiday by e-mail, you can talk to your boss or your colleagues.

Remember, working life is taking up a large part of our life. Working hard by making concessions to private life does not guarantee the comfort of your future. But the small savings you will make during this period will make you comfortable in your retirement.

thank you for reminding this!!

The quest took you 5 years!!! That's the price you pay for such a big achievement. It takes patience and self determination to attain that. And scheduling and timing is key to help push you through that journey. This I have experience in as lots of my work is on a computer in designing different projects. I have to always have great timing since no one is around to push me. And clients always need their work on time. This is where discipline in calculating your time now come in.
Am glad you got successful in your journey. I personally I haven't reached where I want to be yet.. And your 5 year wait has inspired me to continue fighting hard till i get there.
Thanks for reminding us of patience @cryptoctopus

wow very excellent post sir @cryptoctopus

Travel is the healthiest addiction.

You are doing best! I would like to live like you someday. I hope these days come quickly:) All the best.

But I think it's good to notice that there is no freedom that doesn't come with a corresponding level of responsibility. >

I totally agree with this. When I was young, I had all my needs provided for by my parents but then I had certain restrictions. I was happy when I totally left home but I got to realize that paying bills is not really as easy as it seemed.

I have also had fantasies of having a more mobile lifestyle but I think I've learnt a thing or two from this post- Responsibilities.

Thank you from posting this @cryptoctopus

Yes of course....
nice post sir
& upvote done

thanks to you for your traveling, what a great caption in your mobile
and just awesome cost is a matter a man can be free when he was absorbed
in his/her trip.
but real life is full of responsibilities it is not like as trip .
a man can enjoy him/herself in leisure period.
but your life style is really good. upvote /resteemit done

Beautiful photography really amazing photos nice post thanks for sharing..I will done upvote sir...

You're living the dream.
I would gladly accept the drawbacks if I get to have a mobile lifestyle.
If I take my ambitions, traveling would really be number 1.
And if I can work while traveling, that will be the icing on the cake

Taking a choice like this one takes a lot of guts and sacrifice.. it's not easy Conquering that fear of "if it will work out?".
I'm taking your footsteps and giving a less concern about what people(family most especially) will say. People will always judge anyways

thats really a good mind set of diong both taviling and working mean=s your making your time precious its ,my first time being on your post and you got a new follower!

Amazing, i have never seen Photo like this. Oh!. Very beautiful I'm fall in love with these Image.I can't describe beauty by words because it's one type of feeling which every single people have. This picture is better than better. Perfect Click without any doubt.
Capturing nature in all its glory of own creativity. Travel photography is a genre of photography that may involve the documentation of an area's landscape, people, cultures, customs and history. You have a great theoretical knowledge and experience about to make good photography as well as creative perspectives. Your creative perspectives really impressed me. Because without creative perspectives it is not possible to capture this types of glamorous photography.

Very interesting post.

I do not envy your lifestyle. I'm trying to make a similar one work for me.

In the past, I was an employee for 8 years (in 2 companies) and since I left employment, I have been an entrepreneur with multiple ventures (retail, publishing, F&B, business information services & network marketing).

I'm taking a break from starting another venture. But if I get bitten by a compelling idea, I know that I will not be able to hold myself back. I will give it my all; as in the past.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying the current process of learning about the blockchain, it's current & potential applications and also crawling my way through Steemit.

I understand what you mean about some of the downsides of this chosen path: the self-discipline, the lack of an extended social group of colleagues, the lack of a structured day that you will find in employment or managing a business.

That's life!

the first thing considered when planning travel is our money or our budget to that travel and of course we also considered our schedules. schedules in work. and in order to maximize the time for our trip we should plan our destinations by making a detailed trip itinerary in advance and sticking to it as much as possible.

wow very excellent post

i love to traveling

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Well yes life isn't bunch of roses. To achieve something we have to give up something. We have to create a balance

I quit my job a few months back to start a journey in a timeless space and do everything a working person would not be able to do with the time available. I don't regret the choice at this stage because I get to spend more time with the only person that has my heart, "my son". I too would love to travel and thanks to steemit, the community and the wonders of crypto trading that dream is well in grasp.

@cryptoctopus I believe everything does come at a cost but no money in the world could replace both time and life. Loved your post and found it inspirational. Maybe someday soon I too will be able to explore Italy.

@cryptoctopus
This is something I have also been trying to sort out for a while now, and am semi-free, lol in theory i could work from anywhere, but then I get bogged down with all my software being on my desktop tc. I have now got a super laptop (alienware) which is pretty much better than my supedup desktop. so I have no more excuses.

will give it another go, hopefully next post will be from somewhere other than my office :-)

When you work for a company, you sell your time for a fixed fixed amount of money. The contract between you and your employer provides that you will be employed on a regular basis for 8 or 9 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week, to obtain a fixed fixed amount of pay. This pay may increase in special cases and events, but it remains a fixed amount that travels in a limited orbit.

When you work as a free or independent agent, there is no limit to what you can win. You determine the appropriate pricing based on experience and quality of work. You decide how much work you will take in a given period of time, which reflects how much you're earning.

When you work as a free employee, the amount of productivity and quality is the thing you exchange money with, and how much money you will earn will enter your balance in full, without going through the person who makes undesirable deductions. How much money is tied to you and how you work, and then you will have - after a period - a certain measure to determine how much money you want to gain in a given period of time.

This is great, it more like getting off responsiblities responsibly, great work sir

I like how you spelled - respons-a-bilities.
Words are really spells. To respond - it is your ability!
Thanks for sharing! You are great!

Super post ,
Always i enjoy your travels post . Really your photography with description really impressed me. Thank you for sharing This post with us.

nice post i will done upvote

This job is everyone dreams of.
can finish work while on vacation with family.
I hope you and your family are always bless.

Great article and as someone who has done this I would add one thing and that is balancing your expectations with you realities. When you travel things will take extra time and you will have unexpected distractions. Especially if you travel to a country where they do not speak your language or to a third world country. So you have to build that in or you will get very frustrated. Thanks for the great article and keep traveling.

Yes, oh my gosh sooo many distractions! That's why I try to stay somewhere at least a couple of months. It helps a little. Where in Thailand are you @thaicryptokitty?

@nomadicsoul I am in Northeast Thailand right now. It is called Khon Kaen. I live in Bangkok but I am visiting my mom and grandma. I will take some pictures soon and post them and show where I am. Yeah. Indeed every dream has its price and the only question is "Are you willing to pay that price"...'
There is no thing which comes with No strings attached.
So only thing that matters in our life are choices ad are we prepared to live with them...

i agreed with you..but its to difficult to carry both ...i am student and i like traveling and hiking it's to hard to schedule time ...but i mostly did hiking ..

My wife @junebride and I are always wanted to be like in this kind of situation of yours. Our target will be both of us will be working from home next year. Actually, she's already resigning from her work next month and I think that would be a good start. We've been already travelling at least around different islands here in the Philippines but that would need us to take vacation leaves from work to stay longer in a place.

We always wanted to also work while we travel and that's our ultimate goal. I hope we can manage the same challenges that you encountered now when the time comes for us to work while travelling.

Thanks for sharing your experience and lessons-learned with us and keep on posting quality articles.

Pompeii is an extraordinary place to be because it was preserved exactly as it was. There are many other sites. If you visit any other antiquity-type sites throughout the world, they're very damaged with what's gone on over the centuries since they were abandoned. But this one was just, like, sealed, so you're looking at rock surfaces and the carving of letters and names in the stones looks like it was done yesterday.

I think every situation has 2 sides. There are always pros and cons. I think you have to have a really big willpower to work, when you have amazing views outside your window and so many places, where you haven't been yet. And Yes, I always liked working in the office, because I finish my day and don't think about working anymore. And if you work for yourself - here comes the saying - how much you work-so much you get, sometimes it motivates you to stay without rest ...

Is that hanging house on the picture real? Man this is the coolest picture ever.

... certain things such as having co-workers I meet everyday

Water cooler talk, and the compulsory office gossip which comes with it, can be ne of the invisible things missed most. Slack can not replace it, nor can videoconferencing. The spontaneity is different.

It's definitely tougher in the way that when you're at an office, you're there you do work. Your clothes, your environment and your conversations all tailor towards that. Working from home has a stack of benefits, but requires way more discipline. The time benefits when you subtract the commute though. ..

I always believe that we should organize ourselves to work, as we should also plan our time for family and for the things we have always wanted to do, and yes you can if you manage to plan, everything can be done, you just have to have in your mind the things that you want to achieve

P.D: Physicists would be interested to see this photo, and see how amazing gravity is. I follow you.

its very informative and important.
plese go ahead...
thanks a lot for sharing.

I really love that ending statement.

It may sound ridiculous but those little things matter once you don't have them anymore.

Sometimes you really have to give up on things to be able to get closer to your dreams. Although it may be difficult at the start, everyday is a new opportunity to learn and to become a stronger person. And those are the moments that we shouldn't give up for anything else, the chance to grow and the chance to become better than you were yesterday.

P.S. I've been dreaming of the same work set-up too. And I'm glad that I have read your article before I start working for that goal. At least I can emotionally prepare for the things that I am bound to face if, hopefully, I'll be able to achieve that. :)

I liked your juxtaposition of images @cryptoctopus - most bloggers would have probably used your second image (the one of beautiful Italy and the sea) as their main "hero" image, and they would have only focused on how marvelous their lives were. But you did something different - you chose the image of the beautiful house balancing on the precipice as your main image, and you instead chose to focus on the trade-offs involved with a mobile lifestyle. There are always trade-offs and always drawbacks. There is no such thing as a free lunch in life. Thanks for reiterating that point.

having travel can also help us to relieve stress. and planning a travel for vacation there are many factors to weigh your schedule and your money is just one of them.

I will go with you on this @cryptoctopus.
Yes, i love to live a mobile life, same as everyone here, but the issue i'm currently facing is how to better my studies with steemit (i'm a final year engineering student in university)
Most times i found it difficult to be on steemit, all because of my book work, but if i have the opportunity for any meet up, i will likely attend.
The photo below was one of tge meetup i attended in school, where boss @destinysaid was in attendance.

Of a truth, there must be a balance between freedom and responsibilities

“... those little things matter once you don’t have them anymore” in your conclusion. YES, like a family. Your posting is so true and even touching. Thank you... ^^

Definitely not for everyone, @cryptoctopus! One should first objectively see their own personal work situation and then make a decision!

Hahaha. Yeah man, I am just going through that phase. When nobody tells you that you will leave at 06:00 in the evening or you have to wake up on time because you have to reach office on time, it gets little tricky to manage your situation.

Too much freedom, freelancing or traveling without itenerary makes you lose the sense of time n dates too.

However, I have found a solution for it. I am not going to discipline myself. I am done with freelancing. It was better than a regular job and it is still better. I cannot do a 9-5 job even in my dreams.

Steemit is made for me n I am made for Steem. I can spend countless hours on Steemit n have fun. This is such an amazing thing that I cannot even tell how much I love it.

I have no schedule. I don't intend to make one either. My Steem blog n life activities are set to keep going hand in hand. Wherever I am, whatever I am doing, I can share that with the world here n have an impact.

What else do you need?

Because those things You referred as "little" are in fact not really SO LITTLE.. But you have not really specified - is it worth it? No regrets?

Traveling is a great way to explore the world, and, at the same time, sustain yourself. It's all about finding that "balance" and finding out a way that works for you.

At Sukhnidhey Films, we travel the world and document the rich heritage, culture, and arts, bringing them across to people all over the world. Travelling with a cause is the biggest blessing: you get to see places, document them from a conservation point of view, and showcase them to the world:

Brilliant post! I bet alot of people including myself would love to work remotely and travel as you do. You mentioned 'Work & Travel balance', time management and ignoring the distractions and temptations..I completely agree that it is easy to become demotivated to sit and work at times because you are your own boss. But then again you do get motivated to maintain this lifestyle (traveling and the freedom that comes along with it). Thank you so much for sharing this and I am certainly looking forward for your future posts :)

Everything in life have of have it ways of recuperating it selves. There are nothing in this without a cost, you just have to pay your dues either you like it or not.

Well, talking of the mobile life while working, I would really like to experience that on a full scale soon. I like it and I am working towards that too.

There is no pain without a gain.

Wow...I am so jealous of you.
I myself wish I could experience mobile lifestyle like you do.
I realy admire your commitment to work while being tempted by many beautiful things. I know by heart that it's very difficult.
Everything in this world has its plus and minus. But, when we really like it, we can surely handle the "minus"
Thanks for sharing it with us

I think I can agree with you!! You have showed us the inner truth of a fantasy we like to roam about
-cheers-
