Welcome to my 7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - African Wednesday - where the winner of the weekly round will be able to participate for the total of 200 SBD! Today, you can participate by submitting your personal pictures from your travels to the continent of Africa.

Your entries need to be submitted by the midnight of Central European Time in order to be considered for the challenge with a description of approximately 30 to 50 words. Only one picture can be submitted for a daily photo challenge. The rule number one is to use only personal images. Ten winning photos will receive a bigger upvote from me and ten runners-up will get a smaller one. Chosen from the ten winning entries, the absolute winner of the day will receive extended publicity in my post tomorrow morning. I will also visit his/her blog to upvote one of the most recent posts.
The winner of daily challenge then competes against winners from other continental challenges of the respective week to receive the price of 20 SBD. That will be decided by you based on the dollar value of upvotes of my winning post announcement. The winning weekly picture then automatically enters other rounds for the price of 200 SBD in total.

Here's something from famous Milford Sound for you. I travelled New Zealand's South Island back a few years ago and at first I was a bit sceptical as to, if this location could live up to all the hype around it. But it didn't dissapoint. Milford Sound is one of the most spectacular locations I have ever visited. The drive there alone was already worth the visit. Then I even got lucky with this sunset.

Every year, like for 3 years, I draw lots with my girlfriend to see which place to visit in September/October, it's like our vacation trip. But occasionally we do getaways, in Europe to do it with low-cost companies is very economic and easy, which if it is true that I never thought that Iceland was a country that gave so much of itself. Has everything, and very freezing too! From now on, in order to give more truthfulness to the photos, I will tell you the parameters used when taking the picture, so that there are less confusions.So... The Parameters used were: 14mm | f/16 | 15s | ISO 100

After our cruise over the Nile and visiting also Cairo and Alexandria, we returned to Hurghada for few more days pure rest staying in the hotel only. Nothing much to shoot except of sunrises, but even on a sunset managed to get pretty interesting frame to the side opposite to seaside.
So, colourful sunset and an old type of windmill with a mountains silhouette far away

I have many photos of corals and lionfishes. But I can not swim by and do not take a picture. The combination of colors and shapes acts hypnotically on me. Even here in Sudan, at a serious depth, I stop and take pictures. Although the main purpose of diving are "hammers". And there is not much time I can spend at this depth.

This was my second time travelling to Morocco. Soon after I took this picture a sand storm started and some sand grains made their way into my camera screen. But don't worry, the camera is still working fine.

On the north eastern tip of Africa; the first built and last standing of the original wonders of the world, the Great Pyramids of Giza remained the tallest human structures for 3800 years. The Pyramid of Khafre (or Chephren) seen here was built around 2570 BC (4587 years ago) to a height of 143.5 m (471 ft).

I got the chance to go on a safari in Tanzania. We were driving along and suddenly a herd of wild African Elephants came towards us. One of the little ones got a bit itchy I suppose, and came to start rubbing on the log in front of our vehicle.

The Monte Leste (East Mount, in english) it's a small mount located on the Sal Island (Cape Verde archipelago). Although small, it stands out in one of the most arid landscapes I have ever visited.

The Chacma Baboon is found in Southern Africa, where they can live in large groups if conditions are favourable. These amazing primates are extremely adaptable and can live on coastal terrain such as the southern tip of Africa and even in semi-arid climates. I took this picture in Cape Point, South Africa, where they feed on fynbos (finebush) plants, ocean invertebrates on the intertidal shore ( only 2 of the several groups have adapted this strategy) and easily accessible food from humans. The baboons are so intelligent, that they can even open up unlocked car doors!

We had a great holiday in Namibia and Botswana. We hired a fourwheeldrive with a roofroptent. Every night the sunset was amazing. Having a nice barbecue, some wine,sunset and the animals close to our campsite.

Today’s entry for African photo is themed with fabulous animal – Giraffe. It is the tallest land animal on the world as you probably know. It stands 5-6 meters tall and average weight for females is about 800kg, as adult males weight approximately 500kg more. This photo is from Savannah in Namibia, where is low growth and salt pan in the background.

Three weekends ago we climbed a mountain called Simonsberg, situated in the winelands region of Cape Town near the town of Stellenbosch. The views are spectacular and you can even see Table Mountain (on the horizon) about 70km away!

I took this photo when I visited Cairo - Egypt. It was an amazing experience to visit the pyramids and enter them. One of my best trips. I loved the city and the food. The people were very friendly and helpful.

The Idanre Hills, Ondo State, Nigeria. It is one of the best wonders of nature in Africa. The serene community, which is known for it's wonderous hills, makes it one of the most magnificent tourist centres in Africa and even the world. It was an awesome experience and my picture says it all.

In the Ghost Town of Kolmanskop, Namibia
Kolmanskop was once one of the wealthiest towns in the world. Diamonds were so plentiful that they could be picked up off of the ground, even at night, when they twinkled in the moonlight. German miners came and built a town on the edge of the Namib Desert, and there, on the rough edge of civilization, they had virtually every luxury their diamond fortunes could buy.
The history of Kolmanskop began in 1908 when a railway worker, sweeping dirt and debris from the tracks, found unusual stones. He had unwittingly stumbled upon one of the richest diamond deposits in the world.
The town that became Kolmanskop grew at a frenetic pace. Diamond hunters descended on the area, and, buffeted against the wind and sand, set to work on all fours, picking diamonds out of the sand and putting them in jam jars. They coaxed a town of the desert, and because it was essentially a German town, it had German-looking houses, a school, a gymnasium, and a pub.
But this wasn’t an ordinary German town. Kolmanskop was wealthy — in 1912 alone, one million carats of diamonds were found there. The town had fresh water brought in by rail and electricity at a time when many towns in Germany didn’t have it. There was a swimming pool, a butcher, a hospital, and a grand entertainment hall whose acoustics —even today — are remarkable. The mining families of Kolmanskop imported champagne from France. And every day, someone was paid to sweep the streets clear of the sand that blew in overnight.
But as quickly as Kolmanskop’s diamond boom began, it ended. By World War I, the area’s diamond deposits were depleted, and another, larger deposit was discovered near the Orange River. The families who once made their homes in Kolmanskop picked up and moved south, leaving homes and possessions behind. The last residents left the town in 1956.
And then the desert began to reclaim Kolmanskop. Without a human presence to keep the desert at bay, the sand began to overtake the once grand homes, filling the parlors, dining rooms, and bedrooms where families once lived. Paint and wallpaper were worn away by sand and by time.
To walk among the empty town today is to be reminded that we humans are small, powerless creatures. We build our homes, we live our lives and do what we will. But ultimately, time and nature will have their way with these things, leaving scant traces of our small existence.

Hard to pick just 1 picture. I visited Africa twice, first trip was to South Africa and last month I came back from Ethiopia. This is one of my favorite pictures I took. I climbed Cape Town's Lion Head at 4 AM to see Cape Town's Sunrise with the Table Mountain view in front. This is just before the sun picks through the horizon.

🐘 Me & the Beast 🐘
This is my picture of the day, perhaps not the most beautiful picture I can have, but it is the most emotional for me.
Africa is a wild place, full of adventures. I don't know why even though my girlfriend always says to go to Kenya or Botswana, we've never been (except Morocco and Egypt).
If you say Africa the first thing I think of is my favorite animal and that's the Elephant, maybe that's why I love Thailand because it's a very characteristic animal there too.
This picture was taken there, in a very special park. The park is Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation center in Northern Thailand where you can volunteer and visit to help.
I wish this elephant, like all other animals in the world, were at liberty, but they are always exposed to human danger, either to hunt them or for profit.
At least if they're in a park, I hope it looks like this.

This place is called somorika the spiritual island which is located at Edo State (igarra) Nigeria.
Where Me and and my colleague were in search of mineral resources. In this region we found different scary things like flowing blood channel, different shrine which we were been told not to move, a narrow hinge outcrop and also different scary animals. And we also saw a goat that change to a human.
It was a terrible day. This is the Entrance to the island when things are still peaceful

On the black lava rocks of the Island El Hierro of the Canary Islands sits the Hotel Punta Grande, the former smallest hotel of the world with only four bedrooms.
It's a kind of curiosity because of its size, the isolated location at the steep rough lava coast and the fact that much of the wood used was salvaged from ship wrecks.

I had a chance to visit this beach on my birthday with friends and it was fun..
Unfortunately, people don't just know about this beach, but I took it as a priority to make some places known in Akwa Ibom and make it one of the tour locations in Nigeria..

Hi, the following photo is from my trip in 2006 to Egypt. When we visited the Bedouin people I was really amazed with the joy and laughter of these kids. They seemed so happy. I tried to capture that moment.
