For one heart-stopping moment, this giant Simba was 7 feet away, had his eyes fixed upon me, and was walking right toward me in my open-sided safari vehicle. My pulse went through the roof, but at the last possible second, he turned aside and walked around our vehicle.

Gampong Jawa Is one of the places where fishermen do the activity of pulling nets. This location is also a place for photographers to look for the moment. How not, the sea which is 3km away from the center of Banda Aceh city and also facing directly with the Indian Ocean offers a million enchanting natural beauty.

Deadvlei of Namibia

Looking at the area now, it’s difficult to imagine that there was ever water here. Deadvlei — its name means “Dead Valley” — reveals an earth devoid of water, its clay surface baked white and crackled from centuries of heat.

Your images from those series are just out of this world! Thank you.

Sunrise in the Sahara

The sand dunes of the Moroccan Sahara are an amazing sight. The huge amounts of piled sand are everything but boring, since the strong winds and the sun constantly change the patterns and colours of the dunes.

I have also posted this photo on my blog.

Wow, just superb. Kindly stay tuned for the winner announcement coming later on today. Tomas

One of South Africas highlights is the without doubt the wonderful Panorama Route. Near the end of the route you reach the South Africas counterpart to the Grand Canyon: The Blyde River Canyon. The stone formation you can see on this picture is called 'Three Rondavels'

Three-Rondavels.jpg

What a spectacular view. Truly tremendous.

This is an image of a girl named Taiza of Karo's tribes of Omo Valley, Ethiopia on my visit to Ethiopia on a research for my industrial training in Ethiopia.

Omo Valley, is a home of eight different tribes whose population is about 200,000.

Taiza was born in Karo village live in the east banks in Omo valley in Ethiopia and whose population is about 1000-1500 and she is the seventh born of her family.

Beautiful shot. I love portaits of the African people.

Thanks for the love

Thank you so much for your entry. I do like Taiza´s story.

Thank you

Victoria falls, Zimbabwe. We visited the falls at the least spectaculair time of the year, october. There was less water than in other periods. But it was still great. We made a helicopter flight and the view was spectaculair.

Oh, I am sure that helicopter ride must be something to remember forever. Thank you for your submission. Tomas

One of the photos I'm rediscovering one year after our honeymoon trip to Tanzania.
More to come when I finally have time to do some cleaning and cataloging.
This picture was taken during a jeep ride across the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.

The old man and his hat

maroc-111.jpg

This old man and his wife live at the top of the mountain, where they take care of sheeps and sew hats and blankets.
Everyday, he walk all the way from the moutain in the background to the merinid tombs in Fes (Morocco) to sell his handmade products.

What a great entry that shows how much effort people have to make to provide for their families. Thank you.

Thanks. There is beauty in hard work, and i think this old man represent it well.

kenya elephant.png

Just a few kilometers from the center of the capital of the Republic of Kenya, an East African country, there is a pioneer orphanage in the world, within the Nairobi National Park, where they welcome defenseless elephants. The little elephants receive cares and pampering there, until they grow up and are able to rejoin the wild herds. During that time, baby elephants, barely beginning to show their fangs under their trunks, have fun playing with the mud and drink huge bottles of milk prepared by their caregivers. These giant orphans choose a name for themselves and at the same time hide a sad story: their mothers have been killed to serve the illegal ivory trade, which results in the killing of an elephant every 15 minutes in Africa, according to the orphanage. This is a magnificent work of charity for these animals, and it is good to know that these places exist.

Thank you so much for your entry. on one hand it is very cute but on the other, it just shows the sad story that happens in Africa each and every day. Have a good one. Tomas

It is true, we must also see that there are many countries that need help, among these we have Africa.

Luke Skywalker's house in Matmata, Tunisia. The location is a hotel and it is amazing that they have kept it the same after all these years. My wife doesn't like Star Wars and even she thought this place was awesome. A fun fact is that the original name for Luke's home world was Utapau but it was changed to Tatooine since that was the region where most of the scenes were shot.

matmata_skywalker_dining_room_and_courtyard_reduced1.jpg

Very interesting entry. Thank you for that.

I've always found the setting of the sun to be one of the few beautiful things that hasn't been tainted by human efforts and probably would never would. Watching the sun is not only beautiful but provides this exceptional comfort that couldn't be explained. This photo was taken I'm one of my numerous visits to Sierra leone

Thank you so much for your contribution. Tomas

At Osbourne Foreshore Estate in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Nigeria, I took this shot from the balcony of a 3 story building at about 9pm (GMT+1).
The usual evening Lagos traffic from Ikoyi linking the third mainland bridge was on going as the picture was taken.

The lighthouse on the almost most eastern point of Africa (East Africa on the coast of the Indian Ocean). Personally I like the shadow, here late in the day that points east, toward the namesake of the Ocean in this photo, the Indian Ocean. This lighthouse helps fishermen find their way and helps others from shipwrecking on the coast. A beautiful spot, enjoy.

Douz Tunisia
From the oasis of Tozeur to that of Douz, the south-west of Tunisia unfolds among the most beautiful facets of its landscapes. The road ? A cascade of emotions. A foretaste of adventure also before putting down his suitcases in the small village whose windows open on the Sahara ... And to leave to its discovery. On foot, camel or 4 × 4. Douz will surprise you.

TONGA Park in el-kala Algeria - African wednesday #34

Park TONGA is one of the most humid places in the world. This photo was taken during a romantic trip I had with my husband during the summer vacation in Al-Taref, and this place charmed me with its beauty, but what I regret most is the impact of the global warming on this region, which makes it lose some of its beauty.

The golden dunes along the Nile, nearby Aswan, Egypt. Shot during cruise up the Nile. Quite interesting contrast of colors and pretty interesting cloud formations to finish the composition

Shot handheld with long tele-photo lens compressing the perspective

Enjoy the scenery :)

Another great batch of wonderful photos. It took me a while to decide but I think I prefer the last one of the fishermen. It's got an amazing sky and the human element of people doing an honest job to make a living for themselves and their families. The sea can be a beautiful place to be / work but can also be extremely dangerous when the weather changes. So I've a lot of respect for these men. So long as they're not overfishing the waters (which looking at their set up, I'm convinced there's very little chance of that).

My today's photo is from Namibia. There is one small city (that means: a gas station, one restaurant/bar and two to five houses) called Solitaire. This place is well known by its abandoned cars. They are really interesting to see in the sand all over them.

This is an incredible image of Quiver tree forest, Namibia.
This area is Giant's playground area near keetmanshoop in the south of Namibia.
This type of tree only grows in the south side of this forest.

I so much love this area because the trees grow in generations in this area, with each generation potentially reaching between 100 and 120 years.

This image was taken by a Russian photographer named Daniel Kordan. You can find this image and some of his others here:
