At the time of construction in 1958 Tokyo Tower was the tallest freestanding tower in the world, taking the title from the Eiffel Tower by 13 metres. Depending on where you draw the boundaries there are between 9 million and 38 million people living in Tokyo. The prefecture forms part of the world's most populous metropolitan area of 37.8 million people.

This past weekend I was in Puerto Vallarta to celebrate the wedding of two good friends of mine. It was a truly wonderful event filled with love from friends and families. So, of course, being right along the beach, I had to snap a few photos of the Pacific Ocean while I was there. The water was wonderfully warm, a nice change from the chilly waters I'm used to in Los Angeles!

Under the stars, the seascape looks much more different at night that during the day. Here is a long exposure photo captured in South West of France, as the ocean turns blur and the night lights shine of surrealistic colours... I love staying still and observe the show :)

What a great color combination.

Let me introduce a world ocean picture with this wreck shot in New Caledonia. She has been sunked volontary inside the lagoon to create an artificial reef. And it works ! She's sleeping now by 20-25 meters deep along her starboard side. Really nice dive !

Superb image! Love it.

This photo is another one from my Seychelles series. What else to say, as photo speaks for itself. Beautiful and unique granite rocks and turquoise water which is just calling you to take a swim and relax…

Looking out of the window over here I would definitely be right over at your image:)

The Flying Phoenix

Very calm and contrasting colorful sunset at the Baltic Sea coast, nearby Klaipeda, Lithuania. In fact quite a very rare occasion when Baltic Sea looks just like a lake in calm weather. Normally at least some waves exist all the time.
Combined with pretty interesting cloud formations and perfect reflection from the water surface, overall got pretty stunning photo.
Anybody do see the Phoenix in the skies?

Enjoy the scenery!

I think I can spot him:)

After a storm came a calm.. Amazing sunset and the highest tide I´ve ever seen. Small island called Ko Yao Yai located in Thailand. I could swimm there only a few hours per day because of this huge tide. Fishermen were around, trying to catch animals hidden in the sand.

Location: Ko Yao Yai, Thailand.

Welcome to the contest! Thank you for your wonderful entry.

This beautiful island is called Lady Musgrave Island and is part of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. We had the pleasure of watching whales swim by whilst the sun was setting, it was a beautiful experience.

I am sure that must have been an evening to remember. What a great image.

Cheers!

Sunrise over the Tasman Sea in New Zealand

The natural beauty of the South Island of New Zealand is incredible. This beautiful beach is located near the Abel Tasman National Park on the northern tip of the island and was right next to the campground where I was staying. This made getting up early to see the sunrise much more convenient!

I have also posted this photo on my blog.

You guys not only take incredible images but you also have my admiration for getting up that early to see and capture such beauty.

This magnificent sunset was shot on the island Kri in Raja Ampat. This is the famous Dampier Strait, one of the best places on earth for diving. The island in the background is Gam, where bird watching and kajaking are very popular.

What a wonderful entry, thank you so much!

Watching the sunset over the ocean at single fin bar in Uluwatu, Bali is a must if you are around those parts. Normally there is nice long left waves to surf but this day there was no swell.

Love how the sun is trying to fight its way through the clouds!

Neskowin Oregon

I shot this photo this summer from the beach in Neskowin, Oregon on the Pacific Coast of the United States. This was shot on my first roll of film through my Yashica Mat 124 G twin lens reflex camera. I used Kodak Portra 400, and exposed the film at box speed. I was thrilled with the colors and how this photo turned out!

Great to see you participating back again and submitting this wonderful sunset image. Well done.

Stormy waters of the Atlantic Ocean washing the rugged coast of Playa Bollullo (the Bollullo Beach) - a relatively unknown and isolated beach found just a few kilometers outside of the tourist town of Puerto de la Cruz in the northern part of the Tenerife Island.

Catching a view over the cliff and observing the waves crashes to the cliff in the south of Tonagatapu (the main and the biggest island of Tonga) were a stunning moments. You realize the amazing power of the ocean.

My home spot for surfing on the Blue Coast of the Mediterranean sea. This is where I learned surfing. There was not enough wave and too much wind on the day of the photos.

Enjoy the natural beauty on the coast of Lhoknga aceh. The beach which is located in big aceh is very beautiful when the sun goes down. with the sea directly facing the Indian Ocean, there is no doubt about the beauty of this one beach charm. Lhoknga Beach is also one of the favorite places for world surfers, because it is known to have big and long waves.

I took this photo in the central coast of Venezuela (more precisely in the Vargas state). The coast there is very rocky as it can be seen in the image. I tried to capture the light at the end of the afternoon when the sea got an interesting colour.

I shot this picture at Grey Glacier, part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Together with the Northern one, the ice cap is the world's 3rd largest mass of ice after Antarctica and Greenland. The ice appears blue to the naked eye because of the short wavelengths blue light is transmitted and scattered, when squeezed out air in compressed snow leaves little reflective surface on a glacier for the sunlight.

Australasian Gannet.jpg

Australasian Gannet (Morus serrator) at Muriwai Beach, North Island, New Zealand These birds are plunge divers and spectacular fishers, plunging into the ocean at high speed. They mainly eat squid and forage fish which school near the surface. The Gannet colony at Muriwai is spectacular and amazingly close to civilization.
