Passion Fruit - Exotic Treat of Hainan😋

in travel •  7 years ago

Hey steemians! As you all know I'm in Hainan now, so I would like to share with you every single thing I find interesting and tasty hahaha So this time I'm gonna talk about a fruit - Passion Fruit.

The Passion fruit gets its name from
Catholic (Spanish) missionaries to South America; the parts of the flower reminded them of Jesus' passion
for humanity on the cross. In their eyes:

Other names given to this plant display the given symbolism more obviously such as the Spanish "Espina de Cristo" meaning "Christ's Thorn". In other old European languages it is called "Christ's Crown", "Christ's Bouquet", and "Jesus' Passion". These of course are from cultures based in Christianity during the 15th and 16th centuries when the flower was found by Europeans.

It is my favourite fruit!I especially love cocktails with this fruit, plus it has lots of health benefits!

How to eat?

Wash fruit in cold water and pat dry them using a soft cloth or paper. Cut the fruit lengthwise into two halves. Then, scoop out the juicy pulp with a spoon. Discard the tough shell.

Bon appetite!
