Bulgaria is Beautiful! The rocks of Belogradchik

Hello people from all around the world. Today I wanna share with you a little magic.
We have a proverb here in Bulgaria, I’m not sure how to translate it in english, but something like “Explore your motherland, to start loving it”.
It is strange how people change. Several years ago.. when I was younger I had close to zero desire to “explore my motherland”. I just wasn’t that kind of person, I was dreaming for exotic places, big cities and fancy places. Who would think that while traveling around Bulgaria, climbing around the mountaints.. slowly in an intangible way deep passionate motherland love is growing in me :D It is so different to go and visit a place from looking it in pictures. Now I’ve been to some other countries, I’ve seen amazing places..I wanna travel all around the world, I wanna go everywhere!! but.. I know that mine is just.. mine.. It’s the most beautiful, because it is home :) So after this emotional tirade let me tell you about one place that is beautiful on photos, but at least 10 time more beautiful when you go there. Even magical. The rocks of Belogradchik.
The atmosphere, the energy, the view around the rocks, the scale.. you can not feel these things while watching photos. And I know because I had seen them for years just in photos, and it is so different. I don’t like visiting popular tourist destination because I don’t like crowds of people, that’s why I’ve neglected this place for years. But I was wrong, although these rocks are quite popular if you go there during the week, early in the morning, you can be alone and have all this beauty for yourself.

The rocks of Belogradchik are nature phenomenon, rock sculptures , situated west of the town of Belogradchik, in the fore hills of the western Balkan mountain range. They contain groups of rock figures resembling people, animals, fortresses, pyramids or different objects with imposing sizes - from a few meters to several dozens of meters.

And here is a fancy thing about them🍸- they were nominated to the World "New 7 Wonders of Nature" campaign in 2007 and long time they were leading in their category "Caves, rock formations and valleys".

In 1843 the French traveler Blanqui, amazed by the beauty of the rocks of Belogradchik, said , "The narrow gorges of Oliul in Provence, the Pankorbo pass in Spain, the Alps, the Pyrenees, the most astonishing mountains of Tirol in Switzerland do not possess anything to be compared with this."

And here is an interesting thing. Once I take a lady hitchhiker traveling from Belogradchik to Vidin and then to Roumaine. This meeting was like a vibrational match. She was Czech, living in Romania, and visiting often Bulgaria hitchhiking, also climber, skier, mountain lady (I used to climb and I love mountaints and skiing). She told me super interesting things about this places in Bulgaria, she knew more about climbing in Bulgaria than I know.. And she told me that some Czech climbers had made climbing routes somewhere on the rocks of Belogradchik. I haven’t found these routes yet, but climbing in this area seems like a great experience.
