Martello Tower, Garnish Island, Co. Cork Ireland

Hey everybody,

I recently visited Garnish Island off the coast of West Cork. It was a fascinating visit. This defensive tower was built circa 1805 as a defense against possible French invasion into Ireland. Ireland was then ruled by the British.

There was a beautiful blue shale stone stairs up to the tower. Check it out below.




There was a beautiful stone above doorway to entrance to Tower.



Here is a details Cross Section of the Tower. It is truly magnificent.

The picture below is the view from the top of the tower. We can see Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff to our North in the image. The wall thickness is between 3-4 metres. It is a very solid structure. Beautiful flowers adorn the top of the tower role in compete peace.
