Damaged Bridges And Frozen Streams

We arrived at the entrance to the incredibly clean, accessible and maintained Lagos Andinos trail. The 36 national parks in this country are all preserved to a very high standard.

We had only driven 30 minutes from Pucon but the whole environment was different. We knew we were in for a cold trek when we saw the snow covering the ground.

Thermals are the only way to keep warm!

A perfect example of how well preserved the national parks are is this signpost that says puente en mal estado which translates as bridge in bad state.

As you can see from the pictures the bridge was immaculate and in perfect condition! We guessed that perhaps the bridge had recently been improved and the sign was left over. Still, look at how they used a brand new sign to identify a damaged bridge.

The bridge crossed the ice-cold river and a small waterfall. We got a little closer to the river to take a drink from it. The water was bone-chillingly cold.
