Made it safely to Portugal - Now, what have I bought?

in travel •  7 years ago

After 2.5 days of driving with 1 ferry crossings Nikki @maskedblogger and I finally arrived to our property near Seixo da Beira, Portugal.

Here is the rundown of what we bought.

  1. 2.5 Acres (.9 hectare) of land.

There is probably 1/4 to 1/3 of the land not pictured. It is a small field on the other side of a stream at the bottom of the property.

The property is gently sloping with terraces and a large flat area at the bottom. Between the stone ruin and the stream.

  1. Streams:

Photo taken last spring.

These trees sit on a small stream that run the length of the property. It empties into a larger stream that also borders the property. Unfortunately both streams are currently dry. Portugal is having an exceptionally dry year, I expect that the smaller stream will usually flow most of the year and the large stream will almost always flow year long.

  1. Stone Ruin:

This ruin is likely 150 plus years old and constructed in cut granite. It is apx 30' by 30' (10m x10m).

Hopefully in a couple of years when crypto has hit the moon we will be able to rebuild it.

This is an old granite platform that was previously used for threshing grains. Looks like a great start to a patio.

  1. Bread oven building:

This building use to be part of a large oven used for baking bread. It was converted to a building that is suitable for storage, or possibly a small living accommodation.

The covered area on the left of the bread oven building contains the old wine press trough. It would be cool to make mass quantities of wine, but we may just use it as a small pool.

  1. An old caravan.

This caravan has seen better days, but Nikki spent a couple days making it liveable so we moved from the tent into it. It still has quite a lot of work to go to make it weather tight for winter.

  1. 2 wells.

This well is covered and in good shape. There was about 1.5meters of water in it (which is low) but it has a good inflow of ground water.

The other well is uncovered and located in the small field on the other side of the stream.

  1. Trees!

The property has a large weeping willow.

Two old fig trees.

Four apple trees.

About 15 young pine trees.

Two oak trees.

And 2 grape vines, which strangely enough the tile list as wine trees!

Next update I will go into some of the jobs we have been working on.
