*This post is dedicated to all those who have fought and died during the Korean War for freedom and democracy. It is by their blood and sacrifice that we are able to enjoy how the world is today.*
Hi, Steemit Friends!
As I was preparing to write about Luxembourg City, I realized that this was another special place that deserves much more attention as it also holds a very personal place to Koreans. There is a monument called "Gelle Fra" near the heart of the city at Constitution Square dedicated to the lives of the fallen Luxembourg soldiers during both World Wars and the Korean War. I wanted this to be the first thing I brought up in this blog because there is nothing more special than being at a place where one can be at a monument dedicated to the lives of the lost and understanding that it was because of their sacrifice that you are able to exist. 21 nations fought along side South Koreans during the Korean War and my heart goes out to all of the fallen soldier's families and friends with deep gratitude and respect. They are heroes indeed.
*I usually post in time order of events, but thought to bring these photos first up. After visiting the monument I took a moment to think about the people that died in Korea away from their friends and loved ones. It was a moving to say the least.
*We started off with breakfast in Brussels before leaving to Luxembourg. The trip is around 3 hours by train.
*After arriving in Luxembourg, the first thing we did was visit the cathedral of Luxembourg (aka Cathedral Notre-Dame) and give our prayers there.
*As soon as were finished, we walked over to the downtown area of the city near the Grand Duke's residence. Luxembourg has a Grand Duke instead of a King. (I'm not sure why...)
*There are also guards outside the residence and they do a similar changing of the guard in London. The photo was taken when they were walking back and forth near the entrance.
*For some reason, when you are traveling you can eat all day. And that's what we did. (Beer included). This was a nice bar called "Le Palais".
*After lunch, we had to have dessert so we went to a place called "Chocolate House". And tried some famous chocolate drinks and other goodies. (I forgot the names...) but you actually melt the chocolate with your drink (or eat bits of it at a time).
*The entire time we were wondering around the city, there were pianos in public areas for people to play on. I took this chance and played for my beautiful fiance whenever I could. I guess people thought I played okay???
*More pianos.
*We traveled Casemate du Bock which was place where people hid during the bombing runs during the wars. Sadly, it was closed when we got there, so we just took more photos. The shelters were underground, so you can't see them in the photos, but those were the views on top of the shelters.
"Casemate Du Bock"
*For dinner, we went to a small but famous place called "Am Tiirmschen" that served authentic Luxembourg food. (But I can't remember what it was called...) It was on the 2nd floor and was built inside the old walls of the city.
*After dinner, we walked all the way back to the downtown area but while we were there so stopped by a square garden called "Place des Martyrs" that had wonderful flowers. The whole city was beautiful and I was amazed at the attention that they gave history by remembering the fallen lost ones during wartimes.
*I guess I was being too serious during this day, so my beautiful wife-to-be cheered us up as usual with a selfie.
And I think that's pretty much it! This day in Europe was very touching for both of us. It reminded us of the people that fought so hard during the wars. I hope that this post will not be recognized as a political one, but one out of deep respect.
