Travel 101 – Budget Tips for Solo Travelers

Solo travel can have tons of benefits like less advanced preparation, tons of spur-of-the moment decisions and no schedules. Traveling alone allows you to get to know yourself better and be able to go out and see the world at a different angle.

Traveling can definitely give you a whole lot of learning and getting to know yourself but traveling alone is not always a bed of roses. You also have to look into the money that is going out. You have to shoulder all the bills yourself so this is quite expensive.

Solo Travel Budget Tips

You don’t have fretz to split the bill and usually all travel promos and accommodations assume that you’re traveling with a couple or group of friends. Don’t fret my fretz! Traveling alone is not impossible. Here are a few budget travel tips on how you can save money while traveling on your own.

Finding your Accommodation

If you aren’t picky, you can try the room sharing sort. Here in the Philippines, you can find stuff way cheaper the most but some can be quite uncomfortable, like sleeping in a hammock for example. Yes, there are accommodations that offer the hammock that you can spend for the night.^^ Another one that they offer are renting out tents. You’ll definitely save loads on these. However, not all people are very favorable in staying on a public setting and staying with people they don’t know.

There are hotels that offer rooms at a lesser price if you just know where and know how to look for one. Best that you book in advance because you get to save lots when booking ahead of time. You can also find like solo rooms that offer air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms that you can stay at.

Research plays a vital role. Get to know the place that you’ll be visiting and Google is very helpful in finding the best room/hammock/ tent that fits your budget.

Transportation

Jeepney and Tricycle  

Here in the Philippines, it’s cheaper if you use the public transportation. But that is a little scary since you are all alone and you’ll not be familiar on where and when you need to stop or if you’ve arrived at the right place. Best to ask the reception of the place you’re staying for directions first before going out.

Why not go walking or go for a bike ride? This can get you acquainted with the place and you don’t have to spend a dime a whole of money by renting a car or motorcycle.

Make use of Free Internet

For some, they always want to share their adventures real time or after the day has ended on their social media accounts. In order for you to avoid adding this on your list of expenses, why not check out if the accommodation you’re staying at has free internet.

You can also drop by coffee shops or restaurants that offer such so you don’t have to make use of your mobile’s internet data, especially when you’re out of the country.

Go for Public Monuments, Museums and Parks

At times, entrances for these places are free or very cheap. I’ve also mentioned this before on my budget travel tips and this can also apply for solo travelers as well. At the same time, you also get to learn and experience the city you’re visiting at a new light by knowing their history and culture.

Bear in mind that you are free to spend your money however you want in. You just have to spend them wisely and see if it’s totally worth it. At times, shrinking your budget too much won’t allow you to experience everything that you need to see while you’re visiting.
