Kannur: Visit to the longest Drive-In beach & a peaceful town

This was my first trip without DSLR camera. We planned this trip 2 months earlier for a long weekend (Ganesh Chaturthi) as you won`t get the beach side Resort easily in Kerala.

Day I / 25th August / Friday:

We left for Kannur in our Ballu (Maruti Baleno) at 5AM sharp in the early morning. Group of 5.5 people with 2 couples, 1 baby Yohan and 1 single monster. We took this route:

NICE Road, Bangalore  Mysore Road  Mandya via NH275 Virajpet Kannur

We had a breakfast at CCD, Somanahalli-Mandya outlet at around 9AM. We ordered Corn-Spinach sandwich and Garlic bread; had breakfast in their garden view seating. Recommend you to visit this CCD outlet whenever you pass through this Mysore highway.

Till Virajpet Highway polished roads

From Virajpet One-Lane/Single-track roads with dense forest area; took 2 hours to reach Kannur although its just 80-90Kms route; Dense forest area covering around 25Kms. Better to cover this route before dark.

There is Barapole dam nearby, so you will see river flowing along with your route which gives an immense pleasure of driving down this route. You will not find much places to eat along your route from Virajpet till Kannur, better you take a stop at Virajpet.

We had our lunch at around 1PM at The Cocoon`s The Spice Rack Restaurant. Food was very good especially Omlette & Pizza. Then, we left and reached Kannur around 4-5PM. Until we reach our resort, we were actually waiting to see the beach line. But after reaching to our Resort location, we trek down for around 1Km to see our private beach. We had a mobile networking issue in our resort. So, we generally talk to our family members whenever we go to market.
We checked-in to CheraRock beach resort at 5.30PM and enjoyed the calm environment. That beach is so peaceful, I would definitely visit this place again. We also had 1 haunted house nearby.

We also got Todi (desi Daaru) from the local market and it was damn too tasteless. But we preferred to have local drink rather than a Beer.

They had a very big kitchen and almost every facility. But worst part is they put Coconut Oil in every Curry and dish, so I could not survive there as it was my first visit to Kerala and that too some isolated place. So, I had to adjust with Maggi. Unfortunately, their Chef did not know how to prepare Maggi. :D

Day II/ 26th August/ Saturday
We woke up in the morning and had their Kerala breakfast. They served banana sweet dish, Idiyappam, Bread Jam, Omlette and Tea/Coffee. Although, my Keralite monster friend loved their food but I had Omlette and Bread only. Then, we explored the beach and clicked pictures. We saw few some fishermen catching crabs, fishes and prawns which might be served for our dinner. :D Fishermen didn’t care about his few fishes fell down in the beach sand.

At 12noon, we left from our resort to explore Kannur and Thalaserry market.
Places to visit in Kannur:

Drive-In beach: Muzhappilangad beach is the longest sandy beach which is open to motor vehicles. We loved this beach and had a great fun driving our Ballu on the beach. Must visit. But be careful with your car wheels.

Thalaserry market: We bought 4-fold umbrella and Lottery tickets from there. Also, I parcelled 2 burgers and French fries from KFC for my dinner. We also had Sharja, Kerala famous drink made up of Banana and frozen milk but it worked as a BodyCooler in that summer.
Lighthouse- Unfortunately, we could not visit this place. But I wanted to see lighthouse before I get old; out of curiosity. Especially after watching Shutter Island.
Thalassery Kadapalam (seashore): Don’t visit this place as this place was full of shit and crabs and fishermen.

Although, Kannur is full of beaches only but we preferred to stay in our resort and enjoy the sunset view. Recommend you this resort for friends and family. We had our lunch at Thalassery cuisine restaurant, Paris residency. They served Kerala Parotha, Chicken curry, Paneer curry and sweet dish. It was great experience and long waiting queue but I believe people come for their Thalassery cuisine but I had Paneer curry and Kerala Parotha only.
While coming back from Thalassery to our resort, we forgot our way and it was raining heavily and no network in our mobile phones. Somehow, we managed to reach to our resort but trekking down the resort in dark was full of thrilling experience.

At around 6PM, we enjoyed the sea waves on our beachline and playing with water. Suddenly, we saw our resort manager waving from the resort. We also waved him back. Then, after 1 hour when we came back to the resort, our Manager told us not to go into the water as seashore is full of Stingrays and Star fishes. Then, we realized he was not waving though calling us back :D

We had our dinner at 8PM with plenty of dishes; Crab, Fried fish, Dal curry, etc. but I had my KFC burger.

Day III/27th August/ Sunday:

We woke up at 9AM and had Kerala breakfast again. Clicked pictures in new dress in the morning. You know girls :D We left for Bangalore at around 12noon and took a break at Riders café. Had tea, coffee & Egg Puff. Spent quiet a lot time at Riders cafe along with beautiful road and river flowing nearby.

We had our dinner/snacks at Dominoz & KFC, Mudugere, Mysore highway and finally reached back to Bangalore at 10PM.
