Using Artistic Talent to Encourage

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am married to an incredible man with a big heart and great talent! Recently, our family travelled to the Philippines, where we spent some time volunteering and serving underprivileged children at a school in Mandaluyong.

Most of the MERCYWORLDWIDE volunteers, like myself, served food, played games, passed out school supplies and danced with the children. However, my husband @joechiappetta used his artistic talent to draw portraits of the children for them to keep.

No one told him to do this. But that's what great artists do... They bring their sketch pad with them wherever they go, always ready to capture life around them in all its fullness!

Perhaps it was the extreme heat, or maybe they were enthralled with the process, but most of the kids were great at sitting still while Joe drew them!

I was too busy serving to be able to take photos of all the portraits, but I hope you've been inspired by seeing these few!

Giving back is so important! Love that he used his artistic talents to do it. I'm sure it brought them lots of joy. Upvote for sure!

Thank you! Yes, it was a day full of smiles!

It was so much fun and a compelling honor to participate in this activity for the kids. I started drawing them because the little ones seated in the very back of the event could not see the stage performances: they were too far away. So I figured that I could entertain them a little too and leave them with a drawing souvenir. It changed me getting time with these dear souls.

I got a good deal when I married you! ☺ Love you much!

Oh, you are her husband. How nice!

Yes, we make a team that I only thought existed in fairytales. And yet here we are.

interesting Story, i enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!

Great post. LOVE this. Followed and uprooted :)

Thank you! Pretty cute avatar you have. Following you now as well :)

A more generic tag like #philippines would help many find more of your posts and me as well. I am glad i found this one but one reason is, i have been looking for how to reach you, since i first saw your account. I wonder if you are on discord or steemit.chat. If you leave me your username, i can reach you. However, my username is @surpassinggoogle on both chats. What you do is awesome and especially when you family is involved in it as well.

Thanks so much for the tagging tip! And for your continued suppprt. Will do that in the future. I haven't been on any chats yet. Within the next few days I will try to get on and follow your directions so we can chat. We are still recovering from some jet lag from our Philippines trip, so I am trying to catch up on some things. But hope to talk soon!

Okay! Did you leave Ph yet? Yes, once you are sign up. In general, you will need those chats to be able to connect with other steemians. I also got comment from your husband! Stay awesome! You will be recovered soonest

Yes, we are back in the United States now. Catching up & resting up :) Will chat soon!

The kids are so adorable! Great job @joechiappetta with the drawings!

It was so hot that day--even the local kids were sweating. But it was such an honor to be there serving.

Lovely post, My he drew such a lot of pictures. The children look really sweet. I followed you

Thank you so much! He probably drew twice as many as I showed. But I just couldn't get around quick enough to take photos of all. It was a wonderful day.

@romulexx

How wonderful gesture is that !! I'm pretty sure they were so thrilled to have their portrait made, this is a precious gift, it has great value in the sense it represents the fun and the joy life has to bring, that living on earth is not just surviving and working and eating and sometimes having holidays and then dying...it's not intended to be so tough, for nobody and not for these kids....having a drawing is a cheerful surprise, something positively unexpected that gives faith in the beauty of life ! ^_^

Thanks. One of the most precious moments of the day was when one kid who hardly smiled held his drawing up to another kid and they both smiled warmly, gratified to feel special.
