Against All Authority: The Time of my Life

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

I will try not to limit myself within these anarchist or rebel labels because I'm pretty sure I prefer to be free and not live up to your expectations. It's probably not even enough to write about those topics just to prove you're one, so yeah, I'm far from being any of these, because sometimes I need to follow the rules. I know you are not asking but let me enlighten you with some more interesting bits of my life in chronological order. Perhaps, this is some kind of introduce myself all over again, but this time it would be quite different.

Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.
― Henry David Thoreau

1983 - born this year. I was innocent and sweet then life happened.

1983 - 1995 - during my younger years it was already quite obvious I didn't get along with the society. In school, I was forced to wear a uniform and look like everyone else. I tried to breathe my own fashion, which resulted in me looking different. It was painful to defy everyone else at such young age but I continued doing what I want. I learned not to care. Grandma brought me to church every Sunday and I loved her very much. Though I was quite confused as I was brought to different churches by different people. Worse, the school gave me these science books that confused me even more. Anyway, during those years I was not allowed to get out of the house. I was told to ignore the common people. I guess me and my sister already had plenty of toys, so I didn't know any outdoor children stuff. I made friends with some characters in books. I was trained to be happy on my own, though I was not really sure if I was. We mourned Kurt Cobain's death. Some loved ones left me.

1996 - 2005 - I fell in love - against the rules. I was told that I would get married young and have babies. I would be such a shame to the clan. I'm 34 now, no babies and no boyfriend, I guess I really followed the rules huh. Anyway, I climbed the wall at the back of the school one day. I was caught by the school guard.

Come with me to the office, you would be expelled!,
Oopsie, sorry! You see I work at night, I need some way out of these rules. I'm wearing the same ripped jeans due to poverty. I told him in my sweetest voice.
Oh sorry about that, let me help you get a permission.

Ways around the system, it sucks.

Back in the days, the school had these stupid rules. I was kind of getting more rebellious when I was in University. I started expressing myself, wearing my own stupid black uniform every day. I had a best friend, she was my partner in crime. The evil professors hated us.

2006 - 2012 - I finished uni and was filled with hopes and dreams. I worked for a big corporation during those years and I still had trouble with the authority. More rules! They asked me to do this and that, and I obliged. I was good at what I was doing actually, and I learned to do those things I didn't really learn in school. I learned to think and make something from scratch. But still, I was not getting enough to be rich. People who came in early to work every day and brown nosed the bosses got their promotion. They flew in business class. The system failed me.

I had a small holiday and it was fun. Someone taught me how to hitchhike, camp and travel this way. A new found freedom. I found my ticket to the world.

I ended a long term relationship. I quit my job.

2013 - 2017 - I was traveling around the world. One time I was at the Paraguayan border in Brazil when I was visiting Iguazu Falls, I wanted to check out Ciudad del Este for a day as I heard it was fine to just cross the border without getting noticed. This is not the US, nobody will shoot you. It was really true, the border was like a marketplace, people coming in and out just like that. I even smiled and waved at the border guards. I was accidentally stamped out of Brazil after finding out I needed a visa to Paraguay. Anyway, Brazil gave me 3 more months back in, so Muito obrigada! Afterwards, I overstayed my visa in Argentina because they only gave me 1 week for a humongous country. I paid the penalty. Ways around the system, it sucks. Fuck your bureaucratic rules, I'm just a traveler.

Apparently, I'm tired of following and breaking the rules by now, I guess it is time to make my own rules in life.

Disorder, disobedience & rule breaking are features of all my stories.

Did you break any rules in your life?

Now I just realized that too much strict rules in my life made me break it.

Thanks!

It's always more interesting to be rebellious =)

There are more ideal times to rebel than others, but overall those times are typically more fun! One of the lines a college roommate of mine use to say was "If a cop didn't see it, I didn't do it" .. there were some fun experiences that came out of those moments! haha

Haha I agree. I like those friends who know how to break the rules, so fun.

PS. I saw someone flagging your posts, why?

The account is a "scammer".. Posting photos of someone else's as his own. I sent them information about how the act was inappropriate unless they were identifying the source of the photos. The person continued to post more photos of others' and claim them to be his own. I flagged him. He now flags all of my posts.

Steemcleaners knows about it, but I'm not sure that this person is very high on their list of people to "deal with".

It sucks they do this revenge flagging, anyway I heard you can even make money from steemcleaners by reporting these scammers.

I'll check out his account, I'm curious too.

I just checked. It looks like steemcleaners has started flagging the guy :)

I think I'm the complete opposite. I never had problems in school, I actually really enjoined it. I started to have problem with rules and authority only when I started to work at a corporation...so I quit my job, lol

Yeah, I enjoyed school too, but not actually the school authority.

I have trouble with authority as well.
I'm not even sure why sometimes...

"Did you break any rules in your life?"

Yes. All of them.

No regrets.

Good for you!

Sometimes we have to break the rules even though we know it will be painful. Nowadays, I just try to do it discretely :)

I know what you mean. I learned from my younger years that it is better not to attract attention.

As much as i hate rules, i realized from a very early age that most of them were there to keep the world from becoming utter chaos. I usually break them when it makes my life easier and doesn't interfere in the lives of others.

Thanks. The rules that would not bring even more chaos would be good.

What parents did you have that said you need to get married early? I can understand why you broke all the rules.

My situation is completely different. I love to go to school because I like to understand Mathematics, Physics etc. We don't need to wear any school uniforms. I guess Switzerland isn't as conservative as your country.

No, they were just paranoid I would be getting married early lol. It didn't happen anyway.

It depends on the school.

Did you break any rules in your life?

Now that is funny !

I won't even acknowledge there are rules anymore...

I just get on with my shit, nowadays.
My personal rule book seems to make so much more sense, so I just use that one.

I don't know, I am not sure if that is a stupid question or not. Who knows if there are still people who follow rules lol.

Unfortunately, yes.
They are called taxpayers, and voters. The sociopaths make the rules - for the sheep to follow. (they call it freedom)

Rules will fade away, memories will stay.

True.
