'Go Explore' Wordpress Travel Theme Review

Goexplore.jpg

I recently purchased this premium theme called GoExplore because this is the theme that I believe would best fit my online travel agency startup. It has most of the features I need without having to start from scratch or do it all in php. I think it is also cheaper to buy a premium theme already with some special plugins than to hire a very expensive web developer that I couldn't afford. It would also be cheaper and faster to just hire a freelancer who could customize my wordpress theme to suit my business needs.

This is what has been keeping me busy all day. Forgive me, I'm not so technical and I only have some intermediate knowledge of CSS, Html, Photoshop, and MySQL, so I can still edit some parts or elements of the site. But there would be some advanced designs and forms that I would need to hire a designer on Fiverr for those. I could also buy a Woocommerce plugin as well, so travelers can easily add tours to the cart and easily design custom itineraries themselves. Well, that would cost me some money again so I'll just buy it later. Anyway, I also don't have all the time in the world to learn how to do some advanced customizations.

I really like the theme and it's super responsive and has a modern layout, so please don't tell me to change the theme because I already spent $80 for it. And please don't make me regret, ha! But I welcome any design inputs to this theme. My friend just sent me some money so I could purchase it finally. Unlike other entrepreneurs or startup founders out there, I don't have parents, a garage, free place to stay, access to wealth, rich relatives, connection with the banks and even a job to fund it all, so in reality, I'm financially incapable of doing this all on my own. I just have the guts and nothing more - so please, give chance to others.

Accordion.jpg

What I like about this theme is the 'destinations' plugin, as you can see above, this is the Section 2 on the homepage, there is this thing called 'accordion' where you can feature the places in each destination. This is super cool and easy to edit. You can also easily add directories and subcategories.

There's also the typical slider and articles below which are all neatly arranged. My purpose is not to crowd the website too much but I also don't want it to be too minimalist. It's about traveling to colorful places so it's normal for the page to have bright colors on it, but I still want to have a touch of dark gray or black for elegance. Besides, I love black and dark gray so I'm keeping those colors. I want my website to have my personality on it.

Tadaaaaa here's a preview of my nice and sleek website which I'm editing on a localhost. When you scroll down, the navigation bar also changed from transparent to dark gray. I really like that transition effect.

Website.jpg

That is the actual place and I might need to beg for HD photos from travelers passing through or sit and wait for some charity donation of a 2nd hand proper camera, or at least any point & shoot digicams with zoom would do. At the moment I only have an action cam for underwater photos. I also chose those colors for my logo because emerald is the color of the waters and green is for the lush mountains. I want to keep the theme in those colors because those clearly represent the island.

Itineraries.jpg

On the Featured Tours on the homepage, I want to replace the destination name with a number of days instead. I even created some catchy tour itinerary names that would have some specific activities (scuba diving, island-hopping, snorkeling) and places (lagoons, hidden beaches, and coves). Probably some summary or overview too with 'read more'. I also need to have an enquiry/booking form below that section which is not part of this theme.

While it's still rainy, I would be focusing on the website for now. Hopefully, I would be able to explore other unexplored places that I would like to offer too, and also be able to capture nice photos with a bright blue sky.

Those who are experts in web design or have some experience in travel agency websites, I would appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Thank you!

Wow! I've never seen a Wordpress theme like that! I always thought they were low quality old school themes. But that Go Explore theme looks great so far! It definitely gives off a travel and vacation vibe. Awesome choice. Good luck with your startup!

Thanks! It is a premium theme that's why. It was developed using runaway wordpress framework

My apologies that it has taken some time to get back to this and give this the attention I want. My first advice is similar to your logo: content wins over design. To an extent, users will tolerate a bad design if the content / functions are good. So, nail the content first and worry about all the fine details in the design later. That also gives you another bonus: you'll be fitting the design to the content and not the other way around.
Travel agency websites like to go with that big hero "give them a feeling" image. But, they very quickly get down to business.
The biggest thing is to think of who your customers are and then how they are going to make a decision to do business with you. What is the process of them deciding? What do they value?
Once you know your customer then all your other decisions become easy. Are they price conscious? Are they adventurers? Are they family safe? Will they have special dietary requirements (probably not, but I dunno if you're doing a wholefoods vegan meditation retreat so yeah).
Then it's a matter of rearranging things to fit your customer. You might find it easier to imagine yourself as your customer casting a cynical eye over your site.
Once you have the site live (even if not open to the pulic, you can DM me a link on the MSP Discord) and I'll give a more thorough/specific review. All that designer stuff about consistency and visual systems blah blah.

Thanks! I will send you the link when it's live. It's gonna take a couple of months because the difficult part for me is the content. I wish it is as easy as how I write here on Steemit, but the content is not only about the description of the places but also the intricate parts of the itinerary tours. In my work experience in Inca Trail travel agency, if I miss any details or if I write too much, and those turned out not part of the actual tour/activity - it could lead to a disaster and upset customers.

As always, I get so focused on the design these days. I know it would be family/couples/group of travelers packages and everything would be arranged for them. They would be able to customize their package depending on the kind of adventure they want, do they want scuba diving tour as part of the 10 day, 15 day package or just snorkeling, kayak, do they just want to relax in a resort or some beach some days, or do island camping - require a lot of networking with local agencies. Anyway, I still have a long way to go...

Your service is customised tours. Though, you publish suggested packages as a starting point for negotiation. Sounds good actually. Sensible approach since people can be very indecisive and won't initiate a contact on something too open-ended.
I gather you're writing your content offline in snippets so that you can organise them better than trying to work directly in WordPress? If you're still working on that stuff, then stay out of wordpress! Design in Wordpress can lead to a lot of tweaking busywork.

Yeah I have a few suggested packages (with the popular activities) and they can customize (add some special activities they prefer like scuba diving) it or submit their own itinerary - then I can check the availability, reserve with the partner agencies. All are private tours - minimum of two. For families, honey mooners or group of friends.

I already have written the description of some of the places and other parts of the website - about, faq - weather, etc. etc. I don't write directly in wordpress, I have it all saved in google docs. Yeah, customizing wordpress can be time-consuming for me.

so are you finally gonna stop by whaleshares / discord voice chat and share your new project with all of us?! Starts in 45 minutes from now.......! :D

Yeah when it's live! :)

Nice Theme! I understand paying for it.
I do my own Wordpress theme design and it does take a lot of time. If I were to pay myself minimum wage it would cost way more than $80! But I have more time than money and do enjoy learning how to design my own theme.

Yeah, but I don't have both time and money haha. It is nice to learn how to do design your own theme. It just happened that there's a travel theme that already has the functionality I need.

Nice work looks good. I can't wait to get a holiday from it. Is there a discount is you buy in Steem ;)

Haha thanks. I hope to make the website live before next season. Yes Steemians get a discount. :)

Great I'm ready and waiting :

Yes, that looks thoroughly amazing! Good work on the site, too:)
Raining? Oh, the endless rain has kicked in here:(

Hehe, thank you. I'll savor the rainy days until it would get too warm ugggh. 😓
