To Sell Out or Not? - Paid to Be Real

I’ve spent my time in unconventional ways like “long-term travel” that cause other people to disapprove. They disapprove of my lifestyle probably because it forces them to question their own values. I believe that the path I have taken is just one way to stay true to myself against all odds.

When there’s a community that encourages competition, it could be hard to stay true to yourself. But I believe that competition is not really a bad thing as people’s livelihood depends on it. However, there are people who will try to be someone else, write about things that they don’t really care about in hopes of winning the competition. These labels were invented such as whales, dolphins, minnows that can define anyone now. Oh he’s a whale he must be a winner, oh he’s a minnow he must be a loser. The problem is that you identify with these labels, and in the end, you are living up to it. You need to get out of these categories and just be yourself.

The more we accept ourselves the more we would be able to accept others.

Artists, musicians, writers, or just anyone will encounter this question - to sell out or not? You want to be successful, you want to earn more money because why not? You need to get by, and you need to have the things you deserve in life. But sometimes you sacrifice your spirit in exchange for money and some temporary recognition. That you don’t stick to who you really are because you felt that it’s not going to help you get through life.

The society defines success as having an important job title, and people judge others based on their outward appearances. Despite what my friends and families told me about my travel, I've gone through it and stayed true to myself. I will not look back to the life I've already left behind. Where it was more about selling out, impressing the others and showing what you’ve got. I think I’m done with all that. I prefer to be totally in control now.

I believe we should stop living our lives based on a template.

Here on Steemit, it’s like we’re given a template, people just want to copy other people’s successes. It is nice to feel inspired, to have some people to look up to. But it’s better to be rewarded by just being yourself, or should I say - get paid to be real.

You should stop caring about what people think, and be living up to these labels. It’s all about how much you control your time and how much you own your own mind.

It can be hard to stay true to yourself for fear of being judged. But I guess, here we are free to speak our mind without hurting others. I see people are more understanding here, so it’s the world where you can really be yourself.

To make a certain impression is part of the game because people want to be viewed in a certain way. Like someone “interesting”, or someone “who matters”. If you live up to other people’s expectations, like writing in a certain way for the sake of popularity, it’s like giving up a little part of your soul.

Sometimes you have to be able to accept harsh criticisms. Because nowadays, authenticity is not really popular, “fitting in” is. But there are a lot of people who are also successful and admired because they went against the flow. They stayed being real and have followed their own trail no matter. These people can be the real inspiration.

Live the way you want to live and write the way you want to write. Stop sacrificing your integrity. You should try to live every day following your heart as much as possible. Freedom and authenticity should be your highest ideal.

Thanks for this motivational post.it. really added value to my life.upvoted.

Thanks!

Good afternoon ! Dear readers, I believe that every person should choose his own way of life and go the path that he chose.
The most important thing is not to go out of the way and move in one direction!
The author, I'm on your side, I also like unconventional, spontaneous rest, which will make some nervous and worried! Thanks for the article - it's great!

Good thinking!

Thx

Always be you. There are so many people who don't know who they are, so in their efforts of learning to become themselves, they tend to emulate others who they admire. This has happened for a long time and will continue to happen.

As long as you stay true to yourself, there is no harm in letting others try to be you. You will always be you and there is nothing that they can do to make you be less of yourself :)

Yeah @evolved08gsr, it's nice to look up to some people, and try to be like those we admire. As there are people who are still discovering their passion and what they really want in life. People grow old not really knowing who they are and what really want in life.

Fitting in.

Let me reply to my own comment. If I was "fitting in" in the first place, I wouldn't be here now. Am I obliged to be on Steemit? Is Steemit the only network out there? And it's not criticism that I'm following here. It's something else. Someone got really mad and sad. Too bad, Bernie Sanders is not here anymore, to give a "sound of silence" to specific people. Oh, this comment is going to fit in so very well.

Ok good for you @freedomnation.

So that is your response? When I read at some people's articles, they all seem like ordered from the same person or a group. Isn't it strange that there are thousands and thousands of bots shitposting everytime I post. When I look into their wallet, they aren't very cheap bots. :) So, making me ocstracized, calling me cat, lgbt, con artist and scammer, that is what people do to politicians in my country. They launched a series of articles in bot newspapers calling major freedom fighter woman that she had sex with her dog. She wasn't seen on political rallies since then. It's so easy to put some ad hominem shit, and follow the stream of that shit rather than to help the community to grow. Oh, my 20$ when bittrexed will help me survive the whole year. :) Yet, I'm the one who is wrong, not accepting. Yes, I'm not accepting @diabolika, a group of ponzi builders. They are reading this as I'm writing so, I don't give a single F word, talking about my job. Just learned some wonderful things.

@freedomnation, I am just trying to analyze where this is all coming from, sorry for my delay in answer. Anyway, my post is not against steemit or anyone, I'm really just talking about society in general and people's behavior. I don't know if I offend you in some way, looks like you are having a bad day.

Thanks for the comment.

Someone got really mad and sad.

?

Oh, another one. <3

LOL

it is interesting that so many times we view ourselves through other people's eyes and worry how they view us. I agree with you and think that finding our own perapective and daring to be ourselves is the only way to reach happiness. If people don't like us when we have found who we are and who we want to be then they are not people who we should bother with

I am glad you understood the message @dandesign86.

If people don't like us when we have found who we are and who we want to be then they are not people who we should bother with

I agree.

I agree with what you're saying. Sadly many people cannot be really free, they need to be part of a group, something that defines them.

In my opinion that's mostly because they never tried or learned to live with disregard of other people's opinions.

@blevley thanks for dropping by, Yeah, blame the domestication of people. We used to run free in the wild. But now it's all about conforming and trying to be something else. But there are still very few people who are not like this.

I think there's only so much room for another elebenty bajillion posts about cryptocurrencies and how to do Steemit right. Not criticising those who make this content, but there are a bunch of people who are good and make it engaging and interesting to learn about, and there's a bunch of people just copying them and not getting success. They just look at those sections of the site and think "ker-ching!" I think it's best to write what you know and think you can do best really.

There's no point in writing about one of the more popular topics if you can't be passionate about it and produce stuff people really want to consume. People are just going to see it as putting money ahead of engaging content. IMO it's far better to try and build an audience based off what truly lights you up, whether it's crypto or juggling geese.

Also, sorry to be shallow but I love your shirt, do you remember where you got it?

@catonwheels thanks for understanding the message. Some people might not understand and think it's against steemit lol

For ex., crypto and tech are really hot topics right now, but should I write it? No, I'll just stick to whatever I know and write about it. I will not write just to "fit in", or in hopes of earning instant money. Anyway, it is easier to write things we really know about or anything based on our own experiences. And it makes us write more and not easily give in to discouragement.

There's no point in writing about one of the more popular topics if you can't be passionate about it and produce stuff people really want to consume. People are just going to see it as putting money ahead of engaging content.

Exactly my thoughts!

Also, sorry to be shallow but I love your shirt, do you remember where you got it?

I got it long time ago in some local shop. I've already lost it.

that photo is awesome. You are beautiful and I agree with you! We should live how we want and not what how the society want :D

Thank you @jwolf! :)

So damn right true and down to earth !! Cheers

Thanks! :)

Great message you have here! Continue like this, you can inspire a lot of people.
Always true to yourself and do what you feel :)

Thanks a lot ! :)

Very nice post. As I said before I'm here to read interesting things and to follow interesting people, not to get money... Therefore those "whale, dolphin, minnow" denominations are senseless to me. This site has been a source of inspiration and food for thoughts, your posts highly apreciated!
:)

Thanks @nestorpiresfilho, it's nice that some people come here just to read and learn.

Yeah those labels don't make sense to me as well. And when some people are not earning, they get pretty crazy and start hating other people's success lol. Being rewarded is good, but sometimes it shows who people are sometimes.

Being rewarded is good... when this reward turns into money is when the things goes shitty... :)))

I agree!
