The best thing to do is to write an introduceyourself post. If you do it right, they tend to get higher numbers than any other type of post and collect followers interested in new content. As part of that post, include a picture of yourself holding up a sign saying Steemit and the date (make sure to include your hand so that it's clearly not been photo-shopped).
