My second summer in USA (2016) trough photos and short stories

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello steemians,

My name is Dominik and I came to the USA with Work and Travel program, in this post I am going to write about my experience in the USA during my summer stay in 2016. You can also check out my post about my first summer in the USA

In short, I was working my first summer in Amusement park in Ocean City, MD, called Trimper's rides. And second summer I also spent working in the same amusement park.

I really liked the job in an amusement park. As a kid, I loved to go to an amusement park (like most of the kids), but I was living in a small town which only got visited by traveling amusement park only once per year for a week. I was watching people that were working there I and I said I want to do that when I grow up. So years were passing, I was growing and I went to studies out of my little town. Where I heard about a student program which gives students from all over the world to go to the USA for a summer. I got interested and I a went there and applied for that Work and travel program. They showed me different job positions from the server in a restaurant to the housekeeper, but I got amazed with only one, and it was a position of a ride operator. I said yes to that, went to the interview, got the job, after first summer I was picked for the "employee of a summer". Next year I returned I one day my boss came to me and told me: "Stop what you are doing right now and follow me and my supervisors and learn". That moment I was really happy and satisfied that all of my hard work was recognized and rewarded. I was promoted to a supervisor.

On a previous picture, you can see me and my girlfriend on historical Merry-go-round which is 103 years old. I met my girlfriend in that amusement park, she is from Skopje, Macedonia and I am from Croatia. Our countries were part of Yugoslavia 27 years ago so we speak almost the same language. We are in a relationship for a year and 8 months right now. We had a beautiful time in the USA, and also when we returned home we visited each other every month and takes about 12 hours of a bus driving in one way.

While we were in the USA we went to the Guns 'n' Roses concert close to New York City. Before Guns'n'Roses started there was Lenny Kravitz performing. The whole concert was great and unforgettable, Slash was amazing on the guitar solo for 14 minutes, and Axl Rose is not what he used to be but still not bad.

Summer was great, I was 21 and I had some fun in bars trying pickleback (First shot of whiskey and then a shot of pickle juice), drinking some cocktails with my feet the ocean and other fun stuff like gambling in Atlantic City. I went to Atlantic City with my boss and two other friends, mostly playing blackjack and after the night I had a extra 700$ in my pocket.

After the season ended I went to travel for 12 days. I decided to spend them in Denver, Colorado and Miami, Florida. So I took a plane from Washington DC to the Denver airport.

Denver is a nice city and I could imagine myself living there. There is plenty of parks and green areas in this city, you can also take a free two-way bus to sightsee the city center. Another thing is that cannabis is legal so you can get anything you want from lollipops and chewing gums over brownies and oil to the raw cannabis bud if you are 21 years old. I was staying in a 420 friendly hostel, and I met there a wonderful people and had a great time.

After two days in Denver, my friend texted me that he is passing through Denver and that he goes to visit his friend in Vail, Colorado. He invited me with him so I accepted, and spend two days in Vail. Vail is just 2 hours driving from Denver and it is an amazing town with skiing resort and beautiful nature. 14563517_10210944736199654_3221082971081375242_n.jpg

Just look this beautiful colors of Colorado.

After Colorado and central America, I returned to the east coast to the Miami and its amazing beaches.

When I arrived in Miami it was empty and they said that Hurricane Matthew is about to hit the Miami. Luckily for me, it did not happen. hurricane missed Miami and hit the coast about 200 kilometers north (120 miles). During the passing of a hurricane, it was rainy and windy, but next day it was sunny like nothing happened.14520484_10210986567845419_6261159117429244913_n.jpg

In the fast food restaurant Five Guys, while waiting in line I saw a lady with a snake in her hair. I started a conversation with her about a snake, she said it is a piton and his name is Marty. So she took it and put it around her neck, while snake started to climb at her hair and wrapped around it.

No problem. It happened last night, by the way.

Yeah, I am on a trip last few days, so I missed it. I didn't expect this at all. I am still adjusting to the steemit platform.

That's fine, no worries! Presence is not obligatory haha

That is a beautiful experience right there the photographs are beautifully taken and the snake... I am scared of snakes!

Thank you, three ladies were standing behind me and they didn't notice the snake at first, but when I was talking with the snake lady those girls saw it and started to scream. I wouldn't have a snake as a pet but I'm not afraid of them either, I have the picture with one from the Miami zoo. 14542381_10210986573125551_7745570179711334170_o.jpg
